It adds warmth to a dish, just tried some dried! its not over hot. Daughter said it tastes of Curry(not a lot of help).
I have just googled and it comes from a plant which is a member of the parsley family and is the second most popular and used spice in the world after black pepper.
Its used in stews and casseroles so you may have had it if you have been out for restaraunt meals or had ready meals.

Hope this may be of help. I didnt know it was part of the parsley family. Maybe thats why it has been added to a vegetable soup.

Cumin gives a bit of a kick, it is often added to other spices in curry. If you are worried try one teaspoon to start.
Teresa:)
I love curry

I am making a celery and veg soup, and the recipe calls for 2 teaspoons of dried powdered Cumin. As I have never used this before, can someone tell me what it tastes like, and how hot is it.
Peoples who have recently become a grandad, need not answer.LOL
Many,many thanks
