Listening to/watching my grandson (aged 34 months) talking. He has a very soft voice and a lovely little lisp. I want to eat him!!! |

No Gerrybear, not herring gulls, just the screech of literally hundreds of ordinary gulls (yes probably black headed, not very good on gulls) they all sound the same to me. Dirty people who leave takeaway rubbish and the proximity of the tip encourage them, but they nest on the roof tops now and nothing that is done gets rid of them. But I admit gulls always sound different near the sea!!! (We do have the Severn estuary!!!) I.O.W. nice. |

The unexpected smile of recognition, especially from a child, but also sadly from our loved ones with dementia. Just a small spark of recognition means so much. |

Herring gulls in Gloucestershire?! No wonder the numbers in the UK are decreasing - not a lot of fishing or shellfish in your county! We certainly didn't get them in Surrey - only the squawk of black-headed gulls, who loved the reservoirs and the rubbish tips, almost on a par with feral pigeons. |

After holding onto the dream of moving here ( IOW) for 16 years, to wake up in the morning to the sound of herring gulls makes me grin, even when I'm half-awake! |

I agree with the previous two posters. Also for me, being an ardent gardener, the first shoots in spring, not just the bulbs, but things that have been in the ground all winter, through all the bad weather like we had last year, and that feeling of satisfaction when you know they have made it through. |
