Saw the pic of the capped shaft and the poor old capsule lying beside it, good thing it's not UK, someone would have stolen the cap and the capsule for scrap lol or to sell on ebay.

It's been an incredible rescue and those people who were together all that time must have bonded and will always care about each other.

I just wish all the men a great life in future and hope this means more safety inspections on all small mines that weren't as well regulated as should have been.

All out in 22 hours. 6 rescuers to come.

Fantastic operation, we should draw some experience from it.

they've really managed to speed up the turnaround time, and the rate at which the capsule ascends!

Sylvia, I asked my hubby about this, he says the last one up will be the one whose been up and down constantly so will probably do without the straps. Or theres a way to shut the door yourself.

SylviaInCanada Report 13 Oct 2010 22:33

The reporter on BBC World News has just said there are 2 paramedics down there, not the 4 or 5 that I thought

But they will be very healthy men!

SylviaInCanada Report 13 Oct 2010 22:07

Rita

the last miner to come up is the Shift Supervisor (or foreman) who organised the miners right from the first day, rationed their food and is probably the one person to keep them alive.

He considers it his duty to see every man rescued before he himself is brought out.

BUT he will not be left alone down there.

There are 4 or 5 paramedics, including one mine rescue specialist who have gone down.

We watched last night , and the mine rescue specialist went down to make sure that the Fenix was working correctly ..... and there were expectations that he would in fact come back up and then go back down, again to ensure that things were working properly. Instead he sent that first miner up.

The last people out of the mine will actually be those paramedics.

The question to ask might be how will the last one of those men fasten himself into the capsule, and then fasten the capsule door?

BUT they will make sure that noen of the miners will be left alone

Been watching it since this morning, cried my eyes out! Its so moving, especially the little girl crying as her father came up a minute ago.

I too have been watching, and listening all through the night.... although I fell asleep and woke up in between... earphone still in my ear.

I don't know what you all thought of the speech made by the (PM?)
who took it upon himself to make political 'mileage' out of it. He went on and on.... and really annoyed me!
So, who is going to come in and tell me I'm an eedjit? ;-0))

I saw them bring up the 57 year old miner that has diabetes.
His step daughter was waiting for him. He became a widow 8 years ago.
I am so glad that they have been reunited safely.
I pray for the safe recovery of all the miners.

I watched the first 3 miners brought up

they looked so well and healthy!

Absolutely incredible!

OH spotted how clean shaven they were .................... and suggested that will soon be seeing tv ads by such-and-such razor company!!

We watched it on BBC World News ....... and OH said he had heard one reporter intimating that some tv company or other had offered each miner $400,000 for their story. But that apparently the miners have agreed among themselves that they will all share equally any money that they do get.

Of course .... I had to be out of the room when that little tidbit came on!!

Helen1959 Report 13 Oct 2010 06:48

Just seen the 3rd one come up live on the tv, he seemed very calm and relaxed. Was listening to an expert on BBC breakfast talking about how the preparation took place. I was thinking that some other countries may have rushed the rescue, to try and get the trapped men out earlier. We will never know if that may have caused problems like the tunnel collapsing. The planning that has gone into the rescue should be noted by anyone who has any dealings with underground rescues as the best way to dealwith any such problem should it ever arise again.
I hope that the rescued men will not suffer any side affects in the future from their ordeal and that the likes of the press and other do-gooders leave them alone to get on with their lives. I also wonder if they will get any form of compensation for their ordeal.
