Yes Wend - my parents were born in England as I was. My parents brought me over to Aus. when I was only 3 so I am Australian but I still feel my British heritage and a deep connection to the places my ancestors were born.

Both my paternal gparents were Manx. my father b. in Liverpool always regarded himself as Manx - me I am English born of Manx origin!! Yes I do love the place and am so at home there. It will be my last resting place as was my father's.

Lots of Irish and I have been to vist. My Dad was Irish and on my mums side my 3x great Grandma and x4 great Grandparents were Irish.
Many of my Mums side settled in London,

and my 3x great grandparents came from linconshire from my Grandads side.

I have ancestors from Ireland, France, Belgium and Scotland (a lot in Fife too Foggy:)) and apart from feeling how nice it is to have a mixed heritage and what cool places the individual places are, I don't think I feel any special affinity to them.

Were your parents born in the UK, Sue?

I grew up in Australia and my children are 1st generation Australian but I feel a deep affinity with England. It keeps pulling me back.

My Dad always said his g grandfather was Scottish and a Master Mariner. He said he felt a great affinity for the sea, so he joined the Navy. I have always loved the sea myself and have always lived very near to it and have always loved all things Scottish.

However, since starting my family tree I have discovered that my gg grandfather came from Southampton and from a long line of Hampshire families. What is more important is that my gg grandfather wasn't my gg grandfather, he just " got together" with my gg grandmother sometime between 1891 and 1901. He was a Master Mariner though so that bit was right !!


Think I will stick with being a Scouser living in Wales. :))

I'm a member of the Anglo-German FHS, Shirley. Haven't done much researching yet, but plan to this winter.

mine are from ireland , i went to westport where some were from and it felt really strange.

I do feel a great affinity with my Irish ancestral family.

Scotland I have and a sadness for Ireland.

Italy I dont feel any link to at all.

I really liked Germany and how clean it was. Haven'T been able to find out though where the family came from as they never stated it on any census and didnt take naturalization. Grandfather died in 1911 at sea and his mum died in 1907 just three weeks before my dad was born and is buried in our local cemetery .did find her grave a few years ago. Grt grandfather has gone after 1907 .not on the 1911 census and I think he may have gone back to Germany or maybe went to USA as think some of grandads brothers went there after 1901 census when last "seen"
Would love to know where they came from and go back further on that side. .

Shirley, a few years ago I discovered that my paternal gt. grandfather was German and now I have a longing to visit the country and see where my ancestors came from (Koblenz).

Rose mine is mutli-tonal and I pay extra for the grey bits (least thats what I tell the kids) shoulda got my roots done but haven't seem to had time.

Going grey rapidly Footie, lol it's a bit shorter this week as I've had it cut before I go up to a funeral next week.

Rose to be fair I think yu always looked very Irish to me I think its yur long hair. (wonders if it really so black and shiny)

Would have said not although when our daughter lived in Germany when her hubby was stationed there we visited twice a year for the four years they were there and i always felt easy being there.
Since starting the tree in earnest I have found my paternal grandfather was German . We knew there was German in the family but didnt realise it was that close. No wonder I enjoyed Germany ,even though i did feel I shouldnt at the time having gone through WW2 as a youngster

Foggy, it's only doing my tree that I have found two Scottish ancestors, but I do like bagpipes lol. And Irish Uillean pipes also :)
