I have been using Genes Reunited for a few years now but have just, for the first time, downloaded my tree as a GEDCOM file which cannot yet be opened by my Windows 7 laptop.
I googled "GEDCOM free download" and got a host of options. Any recommendations anyone???
Thanks GT

Geoff,
you DO have a family tree program in its own right on your lappie?
such as family tree maker?
(FTM)

You could try PAF from Familysearch. Legacy is another one whose name has been mentioned by others. I've no personal experience of either, although a 'friend' loves Legacy

Bob - Geoff is looking for a free prog to download. :-)

Geoff
FTM is great but you have to buy the programme (I believe) It's what I work with and even though I have tried other 'free' ones came back to FTM

Tribal pages is a very good one but you have to be on line to work on it....Hayley correct me if I'm wrong please.

Depending on what you require online or offline working will alter what programme you have.

Det I looked at PAF (couldn't remember the name) and if I hadn't recovered my FTM I would have gone for PAF easy to use etc. I also have a friend who uses legacy I haven't looked at it and don't know if you can work on it off line like you can PAF

I may have read it wrongly, but it looked to me, as if he only has a tree on GR,and expects a gedcom download to be opened by windows 7 itself, which it wont do......
:-)))
Bob,
