During the summer months we have had them driving round bibbing their hooter and shouting scrap metal, bit not this time!! Before ll heard the banging l also heard a knocking, so that was probably them so called knocking next door. The bath was full of rubble, broken tiles, might even have been some copper pipe bits!!!!

I was down the road in my car talking to somebody one Sunday morning and we watched a caravan chassis being dumped in full view of us. I wrote the number of the dumpers vehicle and gave it to the parish clerk. A little later the owner of the vehicle was written to,I think it was by the police, and asked to remove their chassis.
A friend of mine, who actually has a scrap yard and has been my saviour throughout my motoring life, said he didn't know why they did not take it to him in the first place.

Now, how can I fix a security camera at the front? The back is more unlikely, can be seen from several places.

Just an example of prices they get,

alloy wheels a tenner each,

catalytic exhaust box, 60 to 80 quid.

Interesting thread.

For a while we had a scrap-metal merchant asking on a regular basis if we had anything for him.

Another time he knocked on the door and asked to check our trailer - full of junk for the dump, not of use to him.

We live on a straight stretch of road in the countryside and twice I've seen his truck parked outside our house when I've come back from the shops.

If you look at our house on Google Earth his truck is, again, parked right outside our home.

I warned OH and the kids and we are very careful about doors and windows - and we are missing an old lawn-mower ready to go to the dump. We didn't tell anyone they could take it.

What really spooked me was when my grown-up daughter rang me to ask if I had looked at Google Earth and whose was that scruffy old truck parked outside?

don't know where you folks live but in UK it is an offence to give "waste" to an unregistered carrier. If he dumps it somewhere illegally and it can be traced back to you, you can be fined something in region of £5,000 so be careful!!!

I don't think the title of this thread should be 'Scrap metal men'. It should just be 'thieves'.

Jude, we have had that lorry here, and they took a new bath that was waiting to be fitted in the house over the road. I have my suspicions who they are but no proof, unfortunately. Thats months ago and she still hasnt a new bath.

Oh Jude,

I didn't mean for my posting to sound as I thought you'd done anything wrong, please don't take it that way.
They did save you a job, think of it in that way.

There's always someone around for an opportunity to nick things and under different circumstances I'd probably let them have my bathroom suite, but it's the way that they van is always dangerously loaded that kicks me in the gut.

Emotionally
