People were "sent to Coventry" often during Union disputes, where a person worked when his oppo's were on strike. so he/she was sent to coventry and no one would dare speak to them. often spilling over into private life time as in addition to working hours. |

When I was a kid we had an expression "sent to Coventry" which meant that no-one spoke to you. Does anyone know where this expression originated from? |
