Hello All, I have just found this thread and how interesting.

I was sitting on the train the other day and couldn't help overhearing a man say that his Kindle was an excellent reading device as he was dyslexic.

I tuned in to this conversation as my Son in Law is too and would love to read a book but it takes him months as he gets tired and the words jump around or get missed!!

As an avid reader myself and my children are too it is hard for me to bear when others cant read a book. Has anyone else come across the Kindle helping dyslexia, it sounds like words are maybe highlighted and spoken to help the reader.

Tess. You can turn on speech with a Kindle, male or female voice though I haven't tried it myself.

My reasons for getting an ebook reader are library some distance away but at my advanced age I can only read large print so not much choice in the charity shops or car boots which is where most of my books used to come from.

I chose the Kindle after a lot of research and for me not being very 'technical' the Kindle was the easiest for me to use, just took it out of the box, turned it on and all the books which I had already ordered were on it in seconds. So simple.

You can listen to your book while having a nice soak in the bath. Also a new way of listening t o" a book at bed time" no tired or cold wrists.

Are these gadgets just for "novels" or do you get books on science and engineering too, i.e. with pictures and diagrams etc.?

Hi Susan, I think the cheaper one will be OK abroad as I will have my laptop with wireless with me. But I will check it out. Was that what you meant - down loading while abroad?

I have one and do believe it is a must for you, especially when you go abroad.

I now have an ipad so don't use it as much, but it is certainly cheaper lol.

I just entered "download talking books" into my search engine.

I don't think it will affect book shops Jude. And if the government have their way with all the cuts there soon wont be any libraries to worry about.

I am learnung something new everyday .... today's new fact was about The Kindle.


However I have now got a question.

Does anyone know if their is a way to download books to sound (speech).

I have a friend who is totally blind, she would love to be able to have a large choice of books to listen to.

It is her birthday next week, I would love to be able to give her some good news.

I would really only like one for holidays Jean. We go away for a month and I can read a lot of books in that time so it would help to have some on an e book, would save weight. I couldn't give up proper books entirely, like you I like the feel of them.

I'm not sure I would like one as i like the feel of a book in my hands.(Just realised i didnt put my hearing aids back in after I washed my hair. Cant hear the keys go down!)
