Lord Young -

It's no good retracting what you said - you obviously believed it at the time.

I'd have had a whole lot more respect for you if you'd just stuck with your beliefs.

Mr Cameron -

You appointed the man. Surely you understood his views when you did so. I'd have had a whole lot more respect for you if you'd stuck by him.

As it stands, you're both exposed as total hypocrites.

Just what this country needs.

He presumably forgot to look at the bigger picture - those who rent rather than have a mortgage. You rarely see established rents go down. And he forgot that even those who do have a mortgage can lose their jobs!

That's the problem with employing your 'chums' - they can inadvertantly tell the truth about what you're really like!!!

DET - I don't think this Government knows why people rent. All they seem to equate is renting with unemployment and wastrels.
After all, as far as they seem concerned, if you lose your job in the area where your main residence is, you should go to your 'summer' place and see if there are jobs in that area!

I think he was looking materialistically. For example we now live in a throwaway society were in the past we would make do and mend. Younger siblings had hand me downs rather than new clothes as these were so much more expensive. Not everyone had phones, today almost everyone has a mobile.

So in some ways we are better off.

Just what we need, then - an enterprise czar who "forgot to look at the bigger picture"

Seriously, I don't think that's the point. Apparently the unemployment that these cuts will cause is - his words - "at the margins".

Which applies to all of us - and if you think it doesn't, then think again. Local authorities, fire services, police services etc., with their budgets slashed by 25%. That won't just affect their staff. They'll stop buying things that other firms supplied, which will mean lay-offs in the private sector.

Which, in turn, will see the closure of local corner shops, local window cleaners, hairdressers etc.

Totally wrong
