Why does everything have to have labels.? It would possibly be better to say for instance i dont eat such and such instead.
Some do not eat any meat.
some may eat meat twice a year
some do not eat eggs or cheese
Both my children/grown ups now, are vegetarian and dont eat meat or fish. but do eat eggs and cheese.
Everyone has their own interpretation of what they eat.

My old dad is a vegitarian. As a child he had the 'evil stepmother', who thought meat was too good for him, and he was never served it.
When in the navy during the war, he used to swop his meat ration for sweet rations, so older sister had chocolate through the war when he came home on leave.
None of us offspring are vegitatians though.
It doesn't seem to have done him any harm though, he is 90 in the spring.

This so reminds me about my daughter when she was about 6 years old. She is/was a great animal lover and had informed me that she was now a vegatarian. We were in the local deli and she asked me for a chicken salad barm for lunch. "but your now vegi" I said. Her reply " no, it's ok because chickens just die".

To this day, she will only eat chicken/turkey apart from Mcdonads because apparently, they don't count. !!

My nephew's partner is a vegetarian - for health reasons - she has Crohns disease and finds that omitting meat helps a lot.

" A vegetarian does not eat meat, including red meat, game, poultry, fish, crustacea, and shellfish, and may also abstain from by-products of animal slaughter such as animal-derived rennet and gelatin.

Semi-vegetarian diets consist largely of vegetarian foods, but may include fish or poultry, or other meats on an infrequent basis. Those with diets containing fish or poultry may define "meat" only as mammalian flesh and may identify with vegetarianism.[A pescetarian diet, for example, includes "fish but no meat".

The common use association between such diets and vegetarianism has led vegetarian groups such as the Vegetarian Society to state diets containing these ingredients are not vegetarian, because fish and birds are animals."

That's the defintion really, but then there are also vegetarians like me who occasionally 'fall of the wagon' when the desire to eat something they enjoyed before becoming veggie gets to them :( very bad for my conscience when I do!

rr yes it is a choice to make and i would never force my children to be like me. but i think its the definition of vegetarian thats the problem. what does it really mean in general rather than mean to the individual?

like vegan its quite clear that vegans do not eat any products that contain animal, even if it means not killing them, like eggs for instance

but what then does vegetarian mean? it is a bit confusing really dont you think?

Florence , chickens and turkeys take care of their young just like mammals do, they keep them warm, they will protect them... they feel pain.

There may be some grounds for saying fish are a different kettle of fish...in as much as if they are fished and not farmed they do have a chance of 'escape' whereas farmed mammals or fowl do not ( unless they are wild and shot) .

It is a choice to make... people act according to their own conscience in this respect :)

evening peeps. i am a vegetarian but will eat chicken and fish. why you ask, well because chicken and turkey are fowl and not animals and neither are fish ,mammals like us. so basically i wont eat any animal that is a mammal because they are the same as us ie.; they give birth to live young as opposed to laying eggs.

does anyone understand my way of thinking or am i all gobbledygook!!!!!!
