Many years ago (or so it seems) a friend of mine moved house at the beginning of December.

Being more than a bit skint at the time, my tree had seen better days. Said friend rang me to say that her new house had a magnificent tree in the loft, and would I like it?

Old, bald tree was summarily thrown into the bin, and the magnificent thing was delivered, decorated and much admired.

For all of half an hour

Phone call went like this: "I don't know how to tell you this, Sue, but they want their tree back"

That old tree was a bit bald before it went into the bin, but it was a whole lot worse when I finally retrieved it. complete with decorative egg shells and cold baked beans.....

Artificial tree; the last few years, and this year too a traditional colour scheme of red, silver and gold but have had a pink and silver year and a turquoise and silver year. The fairy we had our first christmas is still on the tree but she is not on the top, just below the top as she almost fell apart and had to be re-dressed. About 10 years ago we had a new fairy for the top. The lights are white. OH is a light fanatic but, as we are away for christmas he probably wont put all the lights up in the conservatory this year.

An artificial 7ft tree, white lights with gold , bronze, chocolate and cream decorations. last year i bought some plain baubles and decorated them myself with glitter glue, ( a snip of the cost of the fancy ones in the shops).
I also wrap empty boxes to go under my tree, which match the decs on the tree, if we were ever burgled they'd get a nasty shock when they opened the beautifully wrapped 'gifts'!!

I like the glitter glue idea Izzy! I might try that as I have some large cream baubles :)

Artifical, 6 ft' brought about 4 yrs ago. black love it, decorations mainly glass, silver with a touch of red. Daughter has been trying to nab it. Get lost..

Artificial tree for me.
My theme is to hang as much as possible on it. All the baubles are 20+ years old (except 6 Spurs ones which OH insists on hanging up). Some that me and OH bought when we got together, and others were given to me by mum when she decided to do coloured themes.
The ones from my mum are made from the thinnest glass and are a bit dull looking now.

I must add that my mum still puts the fairy on top of the tree. She was bought from Woolies just before I was born in 1967. She is a bit battered and seems to have a mad staring look (fairy, not mum).

we have a5ft artificial and my colour scheme is the same every year. purple, gold and red baubles all arranged in a set way. plus matching tinsel.

i have some homemade decorations an aunt made last year, some red stockings and bows which i added. i too have some wrapped little boxes which are empty.

my poor children are supposed to help me, but have to say i am rather controlling over the way it is decorated and dont like anyone else changing it.

i guess after so many years of trying to get it just right(i think its a work of art to a certain degree), i am just rather protective of my tree.

we string all the cards, usually over 100 round the living room and over the fireplace and have to say, when its all done the room looks lovely and christmassy.

i have had a real tree once or twice, but the needles made such a mess as the cats used to play with the balls on the tree and it was nearly bare by xmas day!!

dont you hate though taking it all down in the new year,looks so bare for a while until you get used to it again.

Daughter told me of idea, friends swop decorations, saves money, but could end up with naff colour sceme.

5 foot artificial one with pine cones on the branches. it's getting a bit old now and shedding! I tend to have a colour scheme every year, but using baubles, tinsel etc that either I've inherited or bought over the years.

The children were allowed to decorate it as they chose one year. Mother in law's comment was along the lines of - there's a tree under there somewhere! lol

it just has to be a real tree

Still have a few tree decorations from when I was a kid.As they are glass ,not many survive now

I like to put lights up outside well i get O H to do it and i like to put tree up in family room on the 1st of Dec It is Blue and silver. I gave both my children the tree ormaments form their first christmas onwards so they have them for the grandchildren

A few years ago Dan and i did a 'window display' on the wide ledge of our bay type window....we laid some big pieces of white fluffy stuffy stuff and made hills and had snowmen and all sorts....our neighbour and friend could see it from her window and was well impressed lol...

24 hours later it had to come out, the cats had destroyed it, sleeping on the bare bits and playing with the snowmen lol.

real tree only, ya cnt beat the smell, and you can get some brill ones that dont shed,


i go purple n silver with white lights only, altho i make an exception fr the decs littleman makes, x

I have a realistic looking fake tree. A contradiction in terms me thinks.

My decorations are all Santa's of one shape or another from all over the world.

My 'fairy' is a paper one made by soon to 27 year old son at Kindy. Very basic, abouth three strands of wool cut and glued for hair.

His younger sister hates it but I love it and it is the last decoration to go on the tree every year.

favourite decoration is a wee mouse in a half walnut shell, santa hat on and is pulling up his blanket.

Can't wait to put up tree again but HATE packing it away, no fun !!

PS: one yea we had a real tree, palnted it in garden to use again. Bought it in next year, decorated it. Lovely, except next mrning it was covered in baby spiders. I hadn't noticed a spider nest.

Sorry to the greenies but out came the fly spray. No more recycled trees for me,
