LOL Kriss, I can't find out who my father's father was!!!
His mum was lovely but............
She said she married this guy, who then adopted him (dad was 16 at the time and his birth had never been registered)
Well, I can't find a marriage, and on the adoption certificate, he seems to have had no say (nor signature) and, if they'd just 'married' why was she living in Devon and he in Cornwall?
They definitely lived together afterwards - so my mum says!!

Hi CC - lots of Jamesons on Shetland - and they're definitely of Viking descent!!

My ex is a descendant of Charles Stewart Parnell (through his illegitimate children). That's nearly royalty!

Its said that my WITTRIDGE side of the family were vikings, but im yet to prove that, and the Penfound side of my tree were origionally pirates

Wow Ann, that's fascinating. Mind you I've been researching my family tree for over 10 years now and hadn't got back as far as you until recently and even then it's not based on parish records. Well done!

Ah ha. My friend IS descended from the Vikings! lol Her family featured on the recent tv programme about Kibworth. Merton College owned a lot of the land there and their records have survived. She found out her family was cultivating a piece of the 'strip' system land as far back as 1265. Just fancy, in one summer she has got back to 1265 and I have been doing my FH for about 5 years and can't get back further than 1645. lol

I'm not interested in Royalty, (no offence Steven lol) I want to be descended from Vikings. I probably am lol

Elizabeth2469049 Report 29 Nov 2010 17:10

I have a splendid note against one of my ancestors in an inherited family tree - her father "was descended from Thomas Lord Holland and through his ancestors from Thomas Plantagenet son of Edward I by Margaret daughter of Philip le Hardi King of France" . I haven't attempted to verify any of this! but it obviously really really mattered!

So Steven we must be rather remote cousins

There's a laddo comes on the TTF board occassionally and he thinks he is related/descended from every royal family in Europe, or so it seems, and I have never heard of half of them. LOL
Ann of GG knows who I mean.

Genealogists/statisticians have worked out that everyone of European descent is almost certainly related to Charlemagne, King of the Franks, who was crowned Emperor on December 25, 800.

I'm sure my ancestors were very important - on one side working as ag.labs in a small village and working for the 'lord of the manor'!
