Ron at Genealogy printers sent me a printed copy of my tree for my sisters crimbo present and it is 31 1/2 feet long x 3 1/2 feet wide.

Maybe GR are out to catch the cheats - the ones who say they are related to you, ask for access to your tree, then copy the whole thing onto their own - just so they can say they have 'thousands' in their tree......and they aren't related to you at all. They are just collecting names. The size of the tree is important to them, although I can't see why.

I agree with what most of you have said - that it's not the size of the tree that's important, but the quality. The real Eureka moment is when we discover we have someone famous - Maggie's heaviest man, or Karen's WWII prisoner of Stalag VII, or Wend's chap who pioneered ultrasound, for example. Such fascinating stories we have amongst us, ALL of us!.
Anyone who knows anything about family trees would know that having ancestors like these mean far more than claiming your tree has 95,000 people in it.

So, for GR to ask who has the biggest tree just goes to show, in my humble opinion, how little they know about researching one!!!
Are they just after a sales pitch? Wouldn't they be better to ask "Whose ancestor invented something we all use today", or Who had a war hero ancestor", that kind of thing.

I have a tree of 653

I have tried to stick to blood not being too diluted.

My "salt of the earth" liniage married wife after wife produced child after child.

I am proud of each and every one of them from the Scotish Highlands to the pits in the North East of England. The mariners from Penzance to the The WW1 casualty who never got to see his child and the WW11 prisoner of Stallag V11 who lived through hell more than once but was the backbone of his family. To the son of a Carting Contractor from Inverness who became a Golfing Professional and married twice for money to the German couple who came to England in the 1840s and made my Grandmothers Birth possible.

Each and every one of them had a meaningfull life and without them I wouldn't be here enjoying my own Grand children. In my quest to find them I have captured and sometimes cried over the transcripts I have found

Well, I may have to tell GR, as I have no rich ancestors, had moved 28 times before I moved here 23 years ago, so have hardly 'stayed where my ancestors were born' (though lived fairly close at times) and have only 500+ people on my tree.
My great x 4 grandfather was, according to the newspaper report of the time, the heaviest man in England!
There is a wonderful description of how they had to knock down the wall beneath his bedroom window to remove the body from the bedroom, and they had to close the road which stopped the 'Rocket' ( a fast coach I presume) from travelling that day!
He was small by todays standards, only 32 stone. However, the paper gives the size of the coffin. Almost 7ft in length, 3ft wide and 2ft 6" high.

My grand daughter and I made 2 sides of his coffin out of lining paper (taped together to get the width!) - it was Huuuge!!! LOL
She got good marks for that homework - she had to research a famous Victorian!

Apparently the rest of the family (2 married daughters and his wife) were 'big' as well - not too sure but they were about 16 stone, 14 stone and 12 stone!! I am a descendant of the 14 stone daughter.

Oh, go on, tell us, don't shuffle out.

Is that the Philip Davies book Joy? if so it sounds really interesting.

Size isn't important to me, the quality of the research and how well sourced it is far more important.

Also I have no interest in who has the richest ancestor. I'm more interested in who has lead an interesting life.

Is the prospect of winning £50 if it is published tempting me to submit one of my ancestors life stories, nah.

It is the actual people in whom I am interested, where they came from, how they lived, who they loved, the transport, the housing .... etc :-)

Size is not 'important' to me and I have no 'important' rich ancestors. My husband's ancestor pioneered ultra-sound scanning in the 1950's and I think that's quite important.

I have a tall Christmas tree because we have high ceilings and my children and grandchildren love it. That's what's important to me!

Size is not everything Joy, it is the quality that is important :) my tree, like some of my ancestors, may be small but perfectly formed lol.

the biggest tree - our trees are not very high now but we used to have a very high one with a TPO. Richest ancestor? - none.

ars is 6 foot too but my Angel is sad so I need to find her a new home n erm replace her :-( do yu think there is a tree angel heaven?

I have a tree on here with 800+ names. All the 'posh' and any vaguely important ones are on husband's side. Most of mine are 'the salt of the earth' lol!

As for Christmas tree, we usually have a 7 ft one. When we buy it, I choose one, stand 'im indoors (or outdoors on this occasion) next to it. He's 6ft 2, so I mentally add on 10 inches - if it looks OK, job done.
