Oh my goodness, as soon as I strated to read the words I heard instead my mother singing this very song, she used to dance around the room with a duster in one hand and sing it so softly and work her way into great emotions. I will never forget this poignant but uplifting song.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen

Hello

Hope you are all keeping well and warm.

I never expected such a response.

So pleased that you like the song and enjoyed the trip down memory lane.

I heard this song in 1991 when it was re-released during the first Gulf War. It was popular all over again.

Thank you all very much for replying and sharing your thoughts.

Take gentle care
Very best wishes
xx

Harry you reminded me of an occasion I heard it, over the tannoy on the aircraft carrier Bulwark at Portsmouth Navy days in the 50s.

edit I meant you belong to me.

Yes, I loved it too.
Gotta say it, they don't write songs like 'what they used to'..... ;-0)

It must be my age, because I don't understand many of them today......
do I sound like my mother???

Oh Harry, I was about 11 years old in 1951 and loved that song too.
I have a recording of ANN SHELTON singing it which my son bought me one Christmas.
By the time you were in Korea, we were back in Germany, so in my young memory the song was out before 1954..... wow does my mind play tricks on me?
We were in Scotland when the Battalion went to Korea 1951.
My dad, a regular soldier then, was training the TA in Arbroath.

There is a newsreel film about the first flight of a passenger plane,( would it be a de Haviland Comet or a Dakota ?) to somewhere new, maybe Africa, and 'You Belong to Me' is the background music.

I can't remember the detail because I was still in single figures when I saw it, and would be for quite a lot more time, and found it very moving.

I always called it' that song they played when that plane went to that place.'

Nice to jog a few memories with "you belong to me". December 1952 when i first heard it from the ship. We were alive and heading back to civilisation.

Happy days

For all the romantics out there:

See the pyramids along the Nile
And watch the sunrise on a tropic isle
But just remember darling all the while
You belong to me

See the marketplace in old Algiers
Send me photographs and souvenirs
Just remember when a dream appears
You belong to me

I'll be so alone without you
Maybe you'll be lonesome too
And blue

Fly the ocean in a silver plane
See the jungle when it's wet with rain
Just remember till you're home again
You belong to me

I'll be so alone without you
Maybe you'll be lonesome too
And blue

Fly the ocean in a silver plane
See the jungle when it's wet with rain
But remember darling till you're home again
That you belong to me

Thank you, Harry. Am slowly, slowly getting better.

Glad others like Monty Sunshine, too.

Remember "I''d Like to Get You on a Slow Boat to China"?

I don't know "Pyramids Along the Nile" , but "Slow Boat to China" oh yes!
That too takes me back.
