Helen, I am sure you would find that the Cats Protection will be glad of a safe refuge and a place where their feral cats can be homed. What you suggest would be ideal. I dont know whether they charge for feral cats, they do for strays. We gave a donation of forty pounds for our rehomed cat.

It makes you feel better to know any animals outside have somewhere to shelter in this cold weather, doesn't it Jean?

Helen, I am not sure the Rescue people would let you take cats if they weren't to be pets and get lots of attention altho maybe some neutered feral cats might need somewhere to live safely. They would help keep the outbuildings clear of mice perhaps.

I wish I could take on a cat or kitten, really miss having pets but couldn't have them here with o.h., he isn't into pets at all. Also I have been feeding the birds for a long time now so wouldn't be fair to introduce a cat that might kill them or the baby birds we get every spring.

How sweet of you both, Jean and Sharron.

We have three dogs and two cats and I applaud anyone who takes on stray animals. We have outbuildings coming empty now, I am thinking of having some rescue cats to live there: shelter and warmth and we can provide food and water. Does anyone have experience of this?

When we had a lavatory outside I would leave a sack of hay on it's side on the floor of it.

Passing hedgehogs would have a night there. Stray cats have always used me as a feeding station until they eventually move in to a life of luxury.

They have taken advantage of the shelters we have provided for them this weekend. They wont share a shelter so OH turned a black box on its side and put bedding in it and hung a curtain in front. The famale was fast asleep in it this morning and only got up for food. Then went back to the box for another hour, then disappeared. The tomcat has been using his shelter for some weeks. with a temp of -10 last night I bet they were glad of their cosy boxes! We have been feeding them for a year and still cant touch either of them, But they are looking well and strong.
