I had my search all filled in and ready to go. On the stroke of 6, I clicked on "search" and immediately got the maintenance message. I expected the site to be struggling to cope with demand, but not at a millisecond past 6pm! Very disappointing. I finally had some limited success during the extra hour at the end. Was that because a lot of people had given up and logged off? Or did they finally get the server running properly?

You were lucky

I tried for the two hours to access the 1911 census. I only wanted one record but kept getting the site maintenance page.

GR announced on facebook at the end of the extra hour that the time had been extended. What a pity they do not communicate with us on here.

erm Flowers lucky you! I had plenty of patience and sat here for two hours to get one record.

Well I managed to get loads- to get something for nothing you just have to keep on trying!! It's called patience !!! Happy New Year x

Managed to access quite a few records.
I found them interesting what I did manage to get.
I know it was slow but genes kept it going to 9 pm exactly.

Yes, I've still been viewing, but it's just reverted back to subscription.

I have just found 6 records since 8pm

I managed to get on at 7 a.m. New Zealand time (6 p.m. your time) and spent a bit over 2 hours and got all I wanted (I hope).

Well thank you for that Genes.................waste of time I I was so looking forward to doing look ups, I will stick to the loyal people on Genes that do look ups for you within a minute you can get an answer..........

Waited 55 minutes to load a page but it didn't appear

Complete waste of time. So slow i could have searched microfiche faster

I had 6 but half way through I lost 5 mins due to essential maintainance at GR. Never mind it was worth it, am now going to go and peruse the print outs and have a cuppa. It did get slower as I went on and I got frustrated, the dog took off, she thought I was grumbling at her. Elaine.

Couldn't get anything to load until 6.30, couldn't find anything new at all, managed to verify a couple of unsures, then got the maintenance message for most of the last half hour.

Managed 5 so far Thanks Genes but taking ages to load, and then to download.
Does keep going to maintenance inbetween too.
But greatful for what I have found.
Waited for at least 10 minutes trying to load the last one so far

Absolutety useless tonight - If you advertise free looks ups on 1911 census you should make sure that your server can cope- it clearly cannot . Does this break any advertising laws/trades description acts as you are advertising a service that you are not able to provide.
