Happy hunting. J*

Steven
It might have been the Electoral registers. This would be listed by address but would only show those eligible to vote.
Take care

I had a Kelly's directory in my office when I worked at the local Railway station, wish I had hung on to it, as it probably got thrown away eventually. It was fascinating to look at the different streets and find names of people I knew from school etc

No one lived in our house before us as it was a brand new council house when my parents got it in 1949, and Mum didn't leave it till she died in 1995, now a woman I know has it and has bought it so it will probably stay in her family for a long time yet.

My own house had several owners and occupants tho as much older.

Kelly's was red.

Steven- I think Von will be correct when she describes the Electoral register. Over 40 years ago when I worked for the Ambulance Service, if we could't find a patient at the address we had been given we always referred immediately to the Burgess Book/ Electoral Register . We used to trawl through looking for a potential name at a nearby address.
Most people didn't have telephones in those days and it was the only way to try and find someone. .....I did occasionally have a little snoop as a young person I found it interesting finding out someone's first name as most people were known as Mr.... or Mrs..... but never their first name...heaven forbid.....how times have changed.-jle
