How strange Holly,
my Daughter has just waved a new lopgloss under my nose and asked what it smelled of.

I go to a shop in town that sells lots of the old types of sweets. coltsfoot rock, sweet cigarettes, pear drops, parma violets. cherry lips, coconut mushrooms, cough candy, scottish fudge. and those liquorice sticks that looked like small twigs, to name but a few

OH gets Pontefract Cakes in Morrisons regularly.
Don't eat many sweets, but used to like Chocolate Limes.
I occassionally eat a Barley Sugar.
We have one of those old sweet shops in our town. When I have to go on that street every 6 weeks to have me hair done, I always call in and get something for the OH, such as Dolly Mixtures, Cherry Lips, Little Gems, and Liquorice Torpedos.

Teresa
Sounds like sherbet lemons to me
They were yellow boiled sweets which cut your tongue when trying to suck out the sherbet.

I liked flying saucers. They were good for playing 'holy communion' at RC schools.

Cooeee Julia, any sign of 'unohoo'?
Yes, little gems were nice and red liquorice torpedos made great lipstick

Sherbet lemons made the roof of my mouth sore if I ate too many, which I usual did! Loved sherbet dips too. Also sweet peanuts and little gems. Anyone remember jamboree bags (a mixture of sweets and one small toy)? Chewing gum machines where you put one old penny in and got a packet of 4 pieces of gum (used those when I was desperate for a sweet and the shop was closed!)

thanks Julia, for reminding me about Barley Sugars. I had totally forgotten they even existed, but I remember now that I was regularly given them to cure my travel-sickness. Whilst sitting on a piece of newspaper in the back seat of the parental car.

(the newspaper was supposed to alleviate car sickness, not catch it as it fell!)
