Yes, i have received a parcel through the post. I cannot remember the last time I ever received one, addressed to me, and me alone.
Normally all the post I get, are hospital appointments, sometimes with prep. in the envelope.
So, imagine my suprise this morning when the postie knocked on the front door, and me still in me jimmies.
When I opened it, I nearly fell off me chair laughing.
Before Christmas I had bought a Le Crueset pie dish from our local Cooking Emporium, and there was a coupon inside to send off for what came today. I posted it with a pile of Christmas Cards, and forgot all about it.
So it came today, a ceramic bird, pie funnel, in red to match me pie dish.
Yes, simple things please, especially on this cold damp and miserable Monday morning. LOLOL

Julia Report 10 Jan 2011 13:33

Agh, little Wed Wobin, have not seen you dancing across these boards for quite a while, so a Happy New Year, to yourself.
I pie funnel. Well, and I am sure someone will correct me. It is, in this case, a small ceramic red bird, to match the colour of the pie dish, that you put in the centre of the dish, when applying the filling. When you have put your filling in, either sweet or savoury, you then put on the pastry lid, and crimp up the edges around the rim of the dish, to make the lid stick.
The pie funnel will be in the centre of the dish, and poke through the hole you normally make in the centre of the pastry , to allow steam to escape. It will also help to lift the pastry lid off the contents of the pie, thus preventing the underside of the crust from becoming soggy. The pie funnel has a little hole in the top, to let the steam evaporate from the pie.
Wow, that took some explaining, but I knew it would not be easy LOLOL
I hope you are now suitably informed, Wed Wobin

Julia Report 10 Jan 2011 13:40

Dearest Aunty Mottie, 'tis true, have have a fully equipped kitchen, and the reason I shop at a Cooking Emporium for Le Creuset ware. No pound shop for me regards my kitchen.
I have it in mind to try a little dish at the weekend suggested by that Prickly Holly one, on her thread.
I do alot of baking, but am not a fan of the Nigella one, and I would never droop my b***bies in the cooking. Ugh disgusting. Has she no morals LOLOL.

Or Dizzi, think " four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie", with one having it's head through the pastry.

Ah, thank you MTG and Julia ( and a Happy New Year to you too ).

I had a vision in my mind of a plastic pipe fitted to an open window into which you threw unwanted pies !

But hold up ! ........................ how come this pie funnel does not leave a great big hole in the middle of your pie ?

Julia

Julia Report 10 Jan 2011 13:46

Hello again, Wed Wobin, because the pastry, goes over his beak, which is pointed upwards.

But how do you get the funnel out ?

Julia

Julia Report 10 Jan 2011 13:58

Little Wed Wobin, I think perhaps you are trying to wind me up here, but I will indulge you. When you have cut into your pie dish pastry top, and served this with the filling, the pie funnel is easily removed. It is then washed, and is ready for the next pie LOL

No, no wind up this time. I genuinely have never come across a pie funnel.

But you have explained it perfectly.

Thank you

Would that be the "Pound Shop " like the one Auntie Motie uses?.**M**.:o))))>

Julia

Julia Report 10 Jan 2011 14:11

Merlin the Rascal, by the cringits, I do not use the Pound Shop, in fact we do not have one in these parts, unlike where Aunty Mottie lives. No, I get my cookware from the Cookery Emporium at Denby Pottery, where sometimes the gorgeous James Martin gives a demo. when he is visiting this shire.
