Can anyone help me. On a birth certificate of an ancestor it has the mothers name then under it it says 'a mannequin'. What does this mean? The birth certificate is dated 1941

thanks

Most likely to be a model I think, possibly for a fashion house?

OR

a mannequin maker perhaps, ie the dummies you see in shop windows.

Could it be her occupation, perhaps she was a model

The mother's occupation wasn't usualy on certs but on my uncles it has mother's name, under that her ocupation and her address

HI - Yes, Rose is right. We now say 'Catwalk Show' - Years ago it was called a 'Mannequin Parade' - Neither phrase uses the word model - but that's what they're both about.

Gosh yes Paula! you reminded me "A mannequin parade" is what my mum used to call it, from that era.
