My friend arrived with a huge bag of Winkles at tea time. They are on the boil as i speak. Anyone got a pin handy??

Hate em! we used to have the winkle man come round on a Sunday yelling Cockles .Shrimps Winkles and would go out to buy em from his barrer! would buy half a pint of each which were measured in a silver tankard, These were our Sunday tea with bread and butter. Was Ok till one week I ate a winkle that was ORF and it put me off for ever more. Still Like shrimps and cockles, but winkles no thanks !!

Thats how my Mum used to buy them.... by the pint! They were already cooked and ready to eat in those days.

OMG no - I close my eyes and I can see my dad with a plate of winkles and a pin coaxing me to try. Yet I love escargot!
