Didn't watch the show Chris, but were The Eagles on?

Ahhhhh 1976

Hotel California

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
'This could be Heaven or this could be Hell'
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...
Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year, you can find it here
Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget
So I called up the Captain,
'Please bring me my wine'
He said,'We haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine'
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...
Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
They livin' it up at the Hotel California
What a nice surprise, bring your alibis
Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said 'We are all just prisoners here, of our own device'
And in the master's chambers,
They gathered for the feast
The stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can't kill the beast
Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
'Relax,'said the night man,
We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
but you can never leave

It was a bit like that in our house, our son had to go out in disgust!!

Don't think so Mau - but I think next Thursday begins a complete showing of TOP being repeated each week.

Oh wow! I left school and started work in 76. I spent the summer in the shopfront of a dry cleaners. I remember the heat. Factory regulations totally ignored with no decent air conditioning. The back of the shop with all the presses was 125 degrees! The radio was always on out back so the music of that year has always stuck with me.

Mau, I love the Eagles too Their Long Road out of Eden cd is great and I love the song It's Your World Now

It's Your World Now Lyrics

A perfect day, the sun is sinkin' low
As evening falls, the gentle breezes blow
The time we shared went by so fast
Just like a dream, we knew it couldn't last
But I'd do it all again
If I could, somehow
But I must be leavin' soon
It's your world now

It's your world now
My race is run
I'm moving on
Like the setting sun
No sad goodbyes
No tears allowed
You'll be alright
It's your world now

Even when we are apart
You'll always be in my heart
When dark clouds appear in the sky
Remember true love never dies

But first a kiss, one glass of wine
Just one more dance while there's still time
My one last wish: someday, you'll see
How hard I tried and how much you meant to me

It's your world now
Use well the time
Be part of something good
Leave something good behind
The curtain falls
I take my bow
That's how it's meant to be
It's your world now
It's your world now
It's your world now

Thinking of having it at my funeral!

Mauatthecoast Report 2 Apr 2011 10:59

Morning Liz.....yes their new stuff is as good as their old.

Couple of years ago I saw them on their "Long Road Out of Eden" tour at Manchester Arena. They played solidly for 3 hours, they were fabulous! and afterwards I could have watched the whole show again.

I still have a midi dress from about 1970/71, navy with a navy and white top, skirt split up front, stopped short of respectability! Worn with knee high white boots! Dress in loft, boots gone!

Kinky Boots Chris? Sounds like good lyrics for a song.

InspectorGreenPen Report 2 Apr 2011 18:50

I remember how disappointed we were when we first saw "A Whiter Shade of Pale" on TOTP

The organist, which was what it was all about for us, was hardly to be seen and when we did see him he had a ghool mask on.....!

And what about the short skirts? Mrs IGP conveniently forgets that she wore them too in the 70's when she moans about the youth of today.....! But don't you think their thighs were a bit chubbier then?

I often wonder how many grandchildren recognise their Grandmas 30 or so years on.on

ChrisofWessex

ChrisofWessex Report 2 Apr 2011 22:14

IGP - mine weren't and as a young mum not as short as most but can recall it was always the girls with the heaviest thighs appeared to wear the shortest thighs!

Wend

Wend Report 2 Apr 2011 22:17

Ah, Gary Brooker, IGP - watched him singing 'Whiter shade of Pale' at the piano with just a tenor saxophinist accompanying him, at a Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings show in a tent in a field in West Sussex about 5 years ago - it was sheeeer magic!

PS My thighs were chubby then (1970's), but they're even chubbier now, ha ha!
