maybe it's because I keep forgetting to put stuff in my original posts and reply to my own threads.....did this used to be Chat or general or have they merged the two? i always wanted general chat and hey presto.....glad to see they've got genealogy chat too....did that used to be something or is that entirely new?

Just been reading this on their announcements board

"Your message board name will also appear on all emails you send, on other members contact page, on tree permissions, Hot Matches and the My Updates page. You can do this on the My Account page."

Hmmm not sure about this. I like to keep my messages private I mean it's a bit embarrassing sending a message to a possible contact or proper genealogist with a name of "secret Red Squirrel 007 1/2" on the top of the message.

I'll have to send someone a message to see how it works lol

There seem to be emoticons here for some, but not for me; most odd, I post and see them on all other sites except this one.

Thanks for that. I've discovered I can choose to send my messages under my boardname or not. However, it says my boardname is invalid....how very dare they......do they know who I am? i've been here since January 2003 apparently lol


I hope I don't have to get rid of my squirrel ears.

By the way, does my name appear under my boardname in contacts or not?

ahh, I've changed to firefox......knew the old fox wouldn't let me down. Apparently my name is still invalid but it let me change my settings anyway lol

My name is invalid - so I just left it as it was before, all in the first name :-)

Hi Joy, mine is in the boardname bit but I've just ignored the messages.

Not sure why we need to be reminded how long we've been members but mustn't grumble about it. (It's just made me realise that I've spent all these years chatting rather than doing my family tree. I did most of my genealogy in the first year ie 2000. When I came here, it just went by the wayside lol)

Lately I've been starting to put all my sources ie census records etc back onto my family tree. I lost them all when I updated to FTM for Mac. So pleased I have though as it's making me look at the research again.

I've got to trawl through them again though and put all the certs I've scanned in and other records I found. It's going to take me ages!

To be honest Rose, that Rose doesn't look very rambling....it looks very clear and concentrated to me lol
