A friend forwarded this incredibly simple exercise regime for those of us
on the other side of fifty. It doesn't require special training equipment - just follow the simple steps below. Try it! You might like it!

EXERCISE FOR PEOPLE OVER 50

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of
room at each side.

With a 5-lb potato bag in each hand, extend your arms straight out from
your sides and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full
minute, and then relax.

Each day you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer. After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato bags.

Then try 50-lb potato bags and then eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb potato bag in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute.

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag . . .

I've passed that on to my mum, who is nearly 81 and has a broken leg (it's well on the mend now) ... and a left shoulder so damaged from a bicycle accident 40 years ago she can't lift her arm to shoulder height ... and a right biceps muscle that she has in some unknown way torn and that has been making that arm useless ...

Aren't I mean? ;)

Getting back at her for sending me a message today that showed up in my Gmail box as

fracture clinic - not good news

I held my breath and clicked. The not good news was that her next appointment is delayed a week. Aargh.
