Hi Elaine, my son and I still talk about Daisy and even my o.h. became fond of her, he had never had a pet before, even as a child but loved to take her for walks, altho he usually ended up at the pub with her. |

I have shed tears for you, I know how you are feeling. However, the person who says she remebers and still talks about her dog of 40 years ago is right, you never forget them and as the sadness fades you'll remember the happy times. Think also about rescuing another, there are so many. Some older dog whose owner has gone before him, just imagine how the poor dog feels after having a loving home. God bless you. Elaine. |

Carole, I am sorry to read this - you will miss Coco so much but can rest in the knowledge you gave him a loving home and did the best you could for him for a long time and then you saved him from suffering. |

This is the reward we give our little companions for the love and loyalty they have given us over the years. We allow them to go gently and with dignity. I can well imagine what you are going through. |

I am so very sorry for your loss. Yes, he is no longer suffering, but you are suffering the bereavement of a close member of your family. God bless. |

I'm sorry Carole. I've had to be kind to some well-loved pets too and let them go. |

Carole, I'm so sad to hear of the loss of your much loved pet. We lost our little Jack Russell 18 years ago, I was distraught when I left him behind at the vets after the final injection. We could hear him in the house (imagined) for a long time after. We always talk about him when ever we are visiting the family, he grew up with them. They say time heals. but there is a big hole in your hole in your life. |

So sorry for your loss, Carole, it never gets any easier. The poems which are on this thread were a tremendous comfort to me when I lost my darling Holly. |

Been asleep , didn't sleep well last night thinking of what could happen today. They opened him up to see if the lump was on his spleen and not spread. But it had. So we had to let him go before he suffered any more. Some secondaries the size of walnuts. He was rescued from an animal sanctuary ten years ago. We were so lucky to have him. He was such a kind playful boy. He had friends who loved him and took care of him while we were away on holiday knowing he was well looked after. He was our baby. We walked him on the common this morning so as he fell asleep he would have happy thoughts in his mind. We have to cremate him and bring the ashes home to place in his garden, a special place where he loved to lick frogs and watch them jump! Chase big birds and the odd cat that dared to come into the garden. |

It is hard to lose a member of the family and in time the tears will cease and happy memories return. Take care. You have done what is best for him with love. |
