Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 23 May 2011 16:44

I just read this, shows she appreciates her education etc and is happy to help others:

Princess Beatrice has expressed her gratitude after an eBay user bought her unusual royal wedding hat for £81,100.

The Philip Treacy-designed head gear has drawn unflattering comparisons with a toilet seat, a cat flap and a Turkey Twizzler.

But that did not deter 40 eBay users from making 114 bids for the hat over the past 10 days.

It was sold to benefit charities Children in Crisis and Unicef, who will take half the money each.

Unicef released a statement from the Princess which said "I cannot believe the amazing response to the hat. It has its own personality, and I am so happy that we have raised the most incredible amount of money and can make an even bigger change in the lives of some of the most vulnerable children across the world.

"I am so grateful to all those who have taken the time to participate in the auction, I know that with all their support we are going to make a real difference in providing education, healthcare and support to children who are most in need.

"I look forward with excitement to playing a part in providing other children with the great education I have been so lucky to have had."

The 22-year-old's outlandish head piece got a mixed reaction when she wore it for cousin Prince William's wedding.

It was described on eBay as being made of "delicate tea rose silk", and sold for a total of £81,100.01 in the auction which ended at 8.31pm on Sunday night.

A spokeswoman for Children in Crisis said: "We are absolutely delighted, it's so exciting. Children in Crisis and Unicef are so happy that Princess Beatrice chose to benefit our two charities doing this fantastic auction."

~~~~~~~~~~~
I also spotted this, which mentions her lack of confidence, no wonder when no one has a good word to say about her or her sister (or mother and father). Wonder how our own children would have grown up in different, maybe more privileged circumstances like these girls? None of us know these girls but only see the sensationalised reports when they are out on the town or whatever..... no wonder her confidence is knocked.
Princess Beatrice looked super svelte in a skimpy minidress as she posed for photographers at the polo on the weekend.
In her slim-fitting, tightly belted blue dress, she showed how much weight she'd lost since 2009, when she looked much curvier at a film premiere.
Her weight loss is apparently down to a sensible diet which includes plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables and water.
She also lost more than two stone training for and running the London Marathon last year.
The princess was upset when unflattering paparazzi pictures of her on a beach in the Caribbean surfaced in 2008.
She said at the time: "I could probably do with losing the odd pound though, so perhaps it's the kick I need."
"It was such an unflattering bikini and I've got one that's so much nicer, so I could have kicked myself for wearing it."
"I thought people were a bit mean, although I know it comes with the territory."
"The trouble is, I don't have much confidence so it can be quite upsetting."
...
Give both girls a break, they can't help their looks or the family they were born into and at least Andrew and Fergie aren't tearing the girls apart but work as a united front to bring them up, unlike many parents who play one child off against the other parent or stop them from seeing the other parent to score points.
I also feel sorry for Fergie, we saw the way the Royals were to Diana too when she didn't kowtow to their rules and Fergie was the same. Ok so she made some mistakes but so do many many women who produce child after child from different fathers, just that their behavious is not plastered all over the newspapers to make money for paparazzi.
I have made many mistakes in my life but luckily most were only known to a few, not front page news. Would people comment on me in such a way as they do Fergie if my life was common knowledge?
(I know some of it is as I have revealed some things but not all)
I thought it was a great idea to auction it off for charity, all credit to the girl.
I don't know why people are so unkind about the girls, or their mother. I have seen less attractive people around and it's not their fault the way they look or were brought up. I will repeat that I once saw a programme about one of them going to Africa or somewhere with their Mum to help children and she mucked in with the best of them and was very nice.
Give them a chance to grow into their twenties and maybe settle down and who knows what they will achieve? To be constantly slagged off must be so soul destroying for them and we can't all look like models or have pretty faces.
LOL Muffy - you enjoy your tinky winky hat :D :D :D :D
Solved the mystery - just found a link to facebook site about the hat. Here's a message someone wrote who had bid on the hat.
"Princess Beatrice Royal Wedding Hat by Philip Treacy was removed from eBay for breaching of one or more of our listing policies. Any offers or bids that you placed on this listing are now null and void; you don't have to complete this transaction.
This listing was removed because it was listed incorrectly; therefore, the seller is free to re-list the item in the correct format. If you want to, feel free to bid on the item again if it's re-listed."
