When do you visit your parents?If you live close do your parents expect you to visit them every week?Talking about parents that are under 50 and fit bodied people

I always visited my parents at least once a week, I don't know whether they expected it but I expected to be let in. :-D

I've just realised that you are talking about parents of my age :-S

Daughter no 1 has no children but has a fairly demanding job, and active social life: she visits us about once or twice a month.

Daughter no 2 has a full-time job and a rather less active social life, but she also has a 4 year old child: she visits about 4 times a week to drop off said child ;-)

2 of my adult children live within about 7 miles from here.
They are always welcome, but I don't expect them to visit, indeed our son rarely does, but he does sometimes phone.
He works shifts, so his free time can be at odd hours.
Daughter is more likely to pop in and does so most weeks...... but I accept that their free time is to be shared with friends too.

My parents have died, but we visit my in-laws in Hampshire quite often.

Mine was as and when,,,,,and it works the same now with my own,,,,no enforcement to visit,,,,,,,they have their own lives and I dont expect nor would they put me first before plans to go elsewhere.....

My Mum died very young.

When I got married, to start with, we lived fairly close and visited both sets of parents every couple of weeks.We both worked in London and were exhausted after the commute. Then we moved 100 miles away and visited once a month-ish.

Almost no-one made the effort to drive to us very often so, over the years, we cut down our visits to them. We do ring very often though.

When my Dad died my stepmother never phoned us, although I ring her every couple of months and we meet up in London sometimes. She broke her leg and didn't tell us for 6 weeks. When we flew arond the M25 to see her, he neighbour was there and very cross with her for not teling us.

M-I-L moans if she doesn't see us very often. But the amusing thing is she moved from Ireland when she was in her early 20's and only went home once a year. My own parents moved around the world due to work and, when we lived in the Far East, they didn't see teir parents for 4 years.

So as a family we are used to being apart and enjoy our reunions.

Well i had a row with my daughters in laws today.His father is ready to cast his son aside as he has not seen him in 3 weeks.Told him his son works 6 days a week (and how lucky he is to have work)and he has to babysit 4 nights as my daughter works.Sunday son in law likes to play football.His father then said he could visit him at home after work or a hour after football.Cant go to his S/I/L flat as he does not like my daughter.I thinks he could meet half way and meet him for a drink?

Not visited my very selfish mother for years, since we all rushed up to care for her when she had an operation
One by one we were sent away and told never to return, she preferred her neighbours to us !
I'm still 12 years old and a very bad girl, according to her !

.Now 92 deaf and blind she phones to tell us what wonderful people she has around her , a dwindling group , since she sacked the gardener, odd job man and rowed with most of them.!
I get occasional updates from her next door neighbour but she has a handicapped child and could well do without added dramas.


Mother is bouyed up by her GP who tells her she will live to be 100 hmmmm..........

I work full time and have a small child and yes my mum expects a visit at elast once a week if not more, despite me trying to explain that there are only so many hours in the day.

She is getting on now and a bit frail and no longer drives so it's us that visit and try to balance that with an hour and a half drive there and same return to visit my daughter's other grandparents.

I do try as I realise they will not be there forever, but gee it's tiring sometimes

I used to visit my parents, who lived ten minutes away by car, at least once a week when I had my son, they didn't visit me often as they had no transport, so it was easier for me to go to them.
They have been gone since 1990 (Dad) and 1995 (Mum)

My brothers used to visit most weeks but always on a Sunday afternoon when they would stay for tea and cake and then leave Mum with all the washing up. I stopped going then as I usually got left to help with the clearing up and washing up but did visit one evening a week and popped in on the occasional Sunday afternoon.

Annie, you must stop worrying about others and look after yourself, if you have blood pressure and heart problems. It's up to your s.i.l. to sort things out with his dad - maybe they can arrange to meet for a drink once a month and the lad visit his dad now and then as well.

lol Annie with my mother dear thread going on and the latest cr*p she has handed out this has made me laugh.
In the 7 years I have been in Spain I have seen Mother dear 3 times the 1st time was 6yrs ago at the other end of the country when my presence was demanded to sort out her place there, then 2 yrs ago when the cruise ship called in to Alicante so we went to see her there, and now when she has come to see me. :-0

Before leaving the UK I used to see her about 4 times a year, never in winter because she wasn't in the country, or when ever she demanded my attention In the last 20 years mother dear has come to see me ..err now, when I married, when I told her I couldn't visit because dad was over from France and 1 birthday when funnily enough Dad once again was over from France. That's it.

My dad ...when we both lived close in the UK I used to see him about 4 times a week, then I moved so it went to fortnightly, then he moved to France ( and I had a pub to run) so it went to about 6 times a year, Then I moved to Spain so it went down to a yearly visit in June for our birthdays, with the odd visit on the side, The last year of his life I visited him 4 times and phoned him every day.

i visit my parents everyday :-D
i live opposite mam n dad so spend most days while lilmans at school with them, unless im doing things with friends,

even if i lived further id still visit every day ;-)

Stray you are the "strange" of kids, the relationship you have with your mum is unbelievable and fantastic but so not "normal" (these days)
It's a thumbs up for your Mum as to how she has dragged you up. (lol I used to think you were sisters the way you joke together) .

If I had had children I would want to be a Mum like you have. Put yourself in the "upper " class having a mum like Joy and Joy is in the "upper" class having a daughter like you. Feel special and make ya Mum feel special 'cos not everyone can have the Mum and Daughter relationship that you 2 have.

I see my parents most days too, Stray :-D. We didn't see my in-laws very often cos they lived a couple of hours away but spoke to them on the phone a lot
