I am disabled and cant do my garden so its in a right old state

Just had a letter from housing telling me if its not sorted by 21st june ,i will have an injunction taken out on me and will have to pay legal cost and pay who ever they get into do my garden

I cant afford to pay anyone to do it for me.So what do i do?
Is there anywhere that i can find someone to do it at a low cost?

Hazel. :-0

Yes my housing officer knowns what situation i am in, she has been round few times.

I have just phoned my ex husband and he is coming round tonight to try and tidy it up, I hate asking him to do anything for me, even thos we get on ok.

I am going to look on freecycle and see if i can get some slabs to put on top of weeds for now once there cut down. until can get it done better.

Hazel, it might be worth trying Age concern or british red cross locally, they have volunteers who 'befriend' I know, They may have some who would do the garden on a regular basis for you.

If i was near I'd pop round with D !

Get intouch with your local newspaper with the story,,,,,,,,,youll have more help than needed and also shame your local council into providing a worker or workers from the probation community service which they work in with,,,,,,not saying they will turn it into a show garden but at least managable.....and can then provide just a lawn strim and hedge cut every so often...shame on them.....

"£20 an hour" !!! I knew I was in the wrong job, Dan wants to do this part time at least when he is old enough to use the equipment ( officially) , I shall encourage him ;-)

Hazel it does sound like paving it would be a good option for you with some nice permanent planting in pots, maybe small shrubs that don't need much attention ( maybe a nice acer) but soften the paving.

Yes i was going to get something like that, i like herbs so be nice to have some near may window,

The garden is out the front so thats why they want it looking better which i understand.

Hope Dan does go for it. Good luck to him if he does

I have been given some other phone numbers that may be of some help, To do with volunteers, Also someone who does it for £15 an hour. So once down can get them in now and then when needed.

See if there is 'volunteer bureau' locally - one I contacted 2 years ago, asked for £5 to cut a lawn, but would wave the fee if the elderly/disabled person couldn't afford it, or could only pay less.

In our area there are schemes whereby people take over a garden in situations such as yours. Have you tried your local Rotary or Lions Clubs? It is the sort of thing they get invovled in - or Community Service?

In My area the council will come around and cut old peoples and disabled peoples lawns who live on their own, once a month for free. I think all councils should do this. :-)

Dont do it here, age uk said some do if you are over 65.

But my ex(who had a heart attact a year ago)came and got it down abit tonight. But i am not the only one here that has garden like it, as most of us has something wrong with us one way or the other.

So you thet would have. Even with a small charge.

I am going to phone housing officer in the morning have a word with her about getting something started for us here.

Hi Treehunter,do you have a local forum website?

In Sheffield we have Sheffield forum that is free to use. I bet that if you put out a plea on there,or in the local rag, that there will be somebody who longs for a garden and lives in a highrise that would be delighted to have the use of your patch for love, and the occasional bacon butty.

If I lived near you I would come round just to escape my newly retired OH for a few hours. ;-)
