Hi.

Just read in the paper today that West Sussex is officially the Sunniest County in the Uk.

For those of us that live here we are not suprised.

Bognor Regis { about 5 miles away from me}...holds the record for the Sunniest place... over 1900 hours of Sunshine a year according to the Met. Office....

Devon, Suffolk and Cornwall were 2nd 3rd and 4th.....

I think its the coastal towns between Bognor and Shoreham that get the most sunshine...

River Adur runs down to the English Channel in the East and River Arun to the West in Littlehampton

The South Downs are directly behind to the North and that little "pocket" often seems to be drier than other places, drive over the Downs ..eg Midhurst and ,Horsham and its often a lot wetter...

Though this week I think we`ve had a lot of rain everywhere...

so much for Flaming June !!!.

I am in the next village to Selsey. Big,big skies.

Quite often, when the rest of the country is buried in snow,we have a bit of rain.

So the sun does always shine upon the righteous then, and us.

Lived in Rustington for two years about half a mile from the beach.Lovely place.

Wish I still lived there instead of in East Yorkshire

Hi Nicky,

Late 1990's in Munmere Way not far from the railway station and doctors surgery. Worked for a while at Automotive Leasing.

Did not take long to walk to the beach or Littlehampton.

Oh wow

Just found my old house on a property website and it is worth more than double what I sold it for in 2000

Hi GB..

Know Munmere Way...my mum lives just round the corner...what a small world....

Rustington is lovely and despite the growing number of residents has still just about managed to retain its Village atmosphere

Even now we say we are going down the village, when we mean the Rustington shops....

The sussex coast to East Yorkshire was quite a move !!!

Have you seen the new cafe on the beach at Littlehampton?

I think it looks like something you are not allowed to let your dog do on the beach but the front is mostly glass so you can sit in there in the winter, drinking your cup of expensive tea in the warm.

When I was a small child my parents used to take us to Littlehampton on the train from Surrey.

Loved the speedboat rides. Watching the small boats going up and down the river. Magical at the time.

One of the local history sites about Littlehampton on Google has some reproductions of old postcards. There is a brilliant one of a sailing boat being tugged down the river.

Thanks for that tip Sharron.
I'll take a look.
Some of my folk lived in River Road Littlehampton, - now redeveloped.

Hi Sharron...Yes seen the new cafe but never eaten in it....rumour has it thats its about £10.99 for fish and Chips!!, though i agree its rather unsightly, it has raised awareness of littlehampton,

And now we have a bid for the worlds longest bench........about half of it is up, but they ran out of money, { so not the worlds longest yet...} its not very comfortable, and they`ve taken away the Shelters to put it up, but again i think it brings the tourists in so is good for local trade...

GB..The speed boat rides dissapeared many years ago...but have come back this year...think its about £15.00 for half an hour per person....making it a rather expensive treat for the average family.....

As Gwyn says the River Road/Pier road area around the Harbour has been developed in recent years, they`ve done a really good job with it, and is now a lovely pedestrianised Riverside walk....

Harbour Lights/Look and Sea on Surrey Street does excellent food at a reasonable price and there is a lookout platform.

Many of us local people were born in Rustington. I wasn't but many of us not born at home saw the first light of day in Zachary Merton.

My OH was born in Zachary Merton....as were some of my friends....

I`m from Hove originally...so though I`ve lived in West Sussex nearly all my life, I wasn`t born here....
