Anyone with either of these conditions find they are struggling with the warm weather and high pollen counts?

I am not at all good, even the effort of dressing (and I get assistance) has me gasping. I have COPD and 2 years ago had respiratory failure which exasperated my condition.

Had an infection in mid May which took 3 weeks to clear and OH is threatening me with Dr!!! Tired of telling him it is the weather. My air chiller in lounge is a boon and upstairs is an oxygen converter.

I move into a room and it is windows closed and curtains drawn to keep heat out!!!

On the bright side none of us will get sunburn!!

Me too. I have asthma and this weather is affecting me Reasures me that i am not the only one and am not imagining things. It tok three years for my diagnosis to happen, despite constant trouble with my breathing. I get a persistant cough with mine.

Jean - if I waken first thing and begin to cough, I know the count is high. Am taking Covonia mentholated linctus and sucking Fismermans Friend apart from the inhalers and pills - heigh ho. As you say it is reassuring to know you are not the only one.

nudge for anyone who missed it yesterday

Dolly

Dolly Report 4 Jul 2011 17:25

I missed it yesterday, thanks for nudging, I have chronic asthma as do my 2 lads aged 23 and 25, 23 year old also has hay fever, but I have noticed since this hot weather this year that I too am having bouts of hay fever which I don't normally suffer with, but then hay fever and asthma go hand in hand, so I should be suprised really.
We have all been taking our inhalers more often as the pollen count is high at the moment....

if COPD sufferers use their oxygen machines
it will filter out the pollen

so if you have one use it

Thank goodness for this thread - I thought I was on the way out. Can hardly breathe and have little energy. Have long term asthma and possible early symptoms of COPD - feeling frightened :-0

The only seasons I like are spring and autumn and this year April was hot!!!!

LindaRSJ

LindaRSJ Report 5 Jul 2011 10:46

Was feeling the same way as you Wend. Just as I thought my breathing was improving after a chest infection, Sunday was a brick wall throwing me right back. Very frightening especially as I have lung cancer. Was begining to think I was on the home run to the Crem.

Thanks everyone for putting your thoughts up. It is nice to know it is the weather that is effecting those of us with breathing probs. Roll on the cooler, rainy weather they have promised us.

It is raining here today but doesn't yet feel a lot cooler. I, as far as I know, don't have asthma although I do suffer mild hayfever symptoms when the pollen count is high. (both parents suffered from hay fever, my Mum quite badly when younger.) This last week when it was really muggy I had a few sessions of finding it harder than normal to breath. Scary but OK again now. I don't have an inhaler or anything and hope this doesn't signal the start of anything. Shall keep fingers crossed that it was a one off.

I have asthma and early copd, feeling bunged up.

TeresaW

TeresaW Report 5 Jul 2011 14:24

It gets my hayfever, and I cough and wheeze at night when I first get into bed if I forget to take my nasal spray (contains becotide same as the brown inhalers asthmatics use). But when I use them I realise I can actually smell things. If I don't I lose my sense of smell.

Worst hayfever symptom, apart from the wheeze, is the itchy inner ear which itches the throat too. Drives me mad!

Jean (Monmouth)

Jean (Monmouth) Report 5 Jul 2011 15:52

Went to the surgery yesterday as I wasnt sure if I was overdoing the Ventolin. Saw a nurse/practitioner/ She told me to double up on my Pulmicort for a few days and take the ventolin when needed Must say things have been better today but that may be down to the rain we have had. Have had the electric fan on in the bedrrom for the last couple of nights. I find it frightening to wake up fighting for breath, which used to happen a lot before I had any treatment. I would go and sit in front of the open back door to get the fresh air because i was too frightened to go back to sleep.

Today hasn't been a good day for me, stayed in dgown and breathing laboured. BBC say pollen down to medium but my breathing says it is very high!
