I have just received a "Herman The German Friendship Cake"
Well, when i say cake, it's actually a bowl of gloop that i have to keep alive for the next ten days!!

Has anyone else ever received one? I had never heard of it before. :-S

I remember doing Ginger beer and passing on the 'plant' and I think I might also have had a cake mix to pass on or my Mum might have done.

Let us know how it tastes and how it affected you lol

There were alot of shared-mixture German friendship cakes around here in 1980s, but I haven't heard of one in recent years.

The cooked cake was actually quite nice.

Gosh, do you mean this gloop has been passed around since 1980 Gwyn!!

I just had a look at mine under the tea towel. If it stops bubbling, it means you have killed it.

Phew! It's still breathing! ;-)

Lol... I dare say they were different 'brews.

We made them in Germany too, when I lived there early 80s and I'm not sure that Customs would have been too keen on letting the same 'mix' into UK.
