Maybe ,the marks and sparks bags are a Geordie thing Island ,people up here ,some of them anyway come into Netto from the posh estate up the road ,and i mean posh [Darras Hall ] and don't like being seen with Netto bags in their hands when they get home,
Stray will more than likely notice a big increase in the number of shoppers when her local shop reopens in a few weeks as Asda as we did,but i have to admit ,our new Asda has a far better range of goods since the change over.
I miss Netto though ,and will have to be content with The Aldi shop unless i use the new Asda. Fred :-)

That's us alright. Just like you, trying to make ourselves feel comfortable in a strange environment.

As I said, London doesn't act itself in a strange environment and neither do those you assume are village idiots.

This is the problem really. Two different environments and nither really adapting to the other.

Wuld Very much like to be able to do the weekly shop in shops like Aldi/ Lidle, as they dont sell half the food I eat I have to do most of it in Asda.

Mrs Londoner can always spot when Mrs Seaside/Village is in Town as she dawdles and wanders aimlessly along the pavements/tube stations unaware that there is a crowd behind trying to go about their business :-(

LOL Island, Quite agree.

You will always get one not quite right, probably caused by living in a coastal village.

I think Londoners call them the village idiots.

George ;-)

I use 'bags for life' until the dog manages to get hold of them and the teethmark holes become too big :-D I use the flimsy ones as bin liners and keep a small stock.

I use a multitude of shops - the local farm shop, M&S, Sainsburys, the local store and Aldi. Some of my OH's lot are a bit 'snobby' about shops, I just ignore them.

Island

Island Report 15 Jul 2011 12:49

I live in London Sharron. Thanks for the ignorant generalisation :-(

I use Aldi most weeks and Lidl for fruit because it seems to be a bit fresher than Aldi. Also Lidl do Tena Lady type products which we can't get on NHS for the old man for reasons you just would not be interested in.

Lidl don't seem to do Danish Blue cheese and Lidl don't do the right squash for his lordship so we usually use both shops.

We go to Netto to buy compost but go round while we are there. Really cheap lollies which our carers love and spreadable Seriously Strong cheese from there.

We go to Morrisons for pulses and rice and Fray Bentos pies which OH and the old man think are some kind of special treat (bless 'em).

Budgens are handy for things the others don't sell, mint jelly and Gruyere mostly. This brings me to Mrs Londoner.

Well. when Londoners are on holiday they do not,I am sure, behave as they do at home. Nor, indeed ,do they dress the same. We do often wonder if they would wear that back home in Wapping.

They are out of their own environment and have to reassure themselves, as do we all, but they can be a big pain in the shops.

i always take my own bags to netto, coz there bags are 3p and 9p and im greedy lol,
but morrys, tesco n asda are free, but i re use mine in my bins as bin liners :-D :-D

Island

Island Report 15 Jul 2011 11:40

Tut tut Fred :-) Why would using an M&S bag for Netto shopping make someone a snob? I always re-use bags, if it happens to be one from my last knickers purchase so be it. ;-)

Having said that, I generally take my own proper shopping bags so where do all those plastic ones come from? Do they breed like wire coat hangers? LOL

StrayKitten

StrayKitten Report 15 Jul 2011 11:27

our netto is dearer than morrisons, our netto shuts tomorow, to go to asda i love asda :-D

badger

badger Report 15 Jul 2011 11:16

We use both Aldi and Netto [now Asda] every week As well as Morrisions. Fred. :-P
