The hospice shop in which I work likes to receive carrier bags. If you have any large ones they are very useful for duvets and cushions and the likes. We are always hunting for large ones.

there was hundreds of them all tattered and dropping to bits

I can,t understand, why? instead of Plastic they don,t revert to the old type of Paper Carrier Bags which you used to get, reasonably strong and totally recyclable.solve a few problems **M**. :-D

StrayKitten Report 20 Jul 2011 14:21

primark do paper carrier bags, they break before you get home by tearing and all ya shoppin falls out :-(

Merlin

Merlin Report 20 Jul 2011 14:25

But do they have String handles in a re inforced part ? if they,re made and packed properly they could last for at least three trips, then be either burnt of recycled . ;-)

StrayKitten

StrayKitten Report 20 Jul 2011 14:29

The carrier bags in our hospice shop are not there long enough to disintegrate. We get a lot of customers in there. They would have the problem of the disintegrating bags! Otherwise you can put them out in the rubbish collection, knowing that they are not going to be a permanent problem at the tip.

Many store carrier bags break down really fast and boy, do they make a mess, it's as if a million mice have been to tea!

So annoying when you pick them up and the contents fall all over the place intermingled with bits of carrier, and very hard to clean up too.

Most supermarkets around here have a recycling container for unwanted carrier bags. I use mine a few times for shopping, then as bin bags.

Liz
I have had the 'mouse' problem in a cupboard when I put away small amounts of knitting wool until the school needed it.
What a mess!

Black bin bags also disintegrate in the loft. We put several things in black bags to keep the moth out of em only to find when we were dong a rubbish tip clear out that they looked like the moths had had a big fed on em. Black confetti all over the place and not easy to get off insulation. OH had now boarded out the loft and we use old cartons for storage now ,Bought some space bag for jumpers duvets etc that you can get loads in and when deflated nothing will get in ..
