Lynda

A song so very close to my heart when my Precious Pa passed away..

"You Raise Me Up"

When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.

There is no life - no life without its hunger;
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly;
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.

Hi Lynda,
I hope you don't mind but I was in Newcastle yesterday and called into St. Nicholas Cathedral and said a little prayer for you and your family.

Thankyou to eveybody who posted kind and thoughtful messages. The funeral was yesterday, and it was a beautiful service, low key and intimate. I spoke about my Dad, the memorable times while I was growing up, and read the poem "He Is Gone", by David Harkins. Thankyou, Liz, for nudging your thread - that's where I found the poem.
Now it's time to clear out his apartment, and put it up for sale. Fortunately, we all had a big clear out when my parents moved down here in 2004, so it won't be such a mammoth task, but certainly an emotional one.
Love from Lynda xxx

James, I love that poem, and had it read at my Mam's funeral, and will be reading it myself for my Dad, if I can.

Lynda,

I have just read your post that your dad has passed away, my sincere condolences to you and your family.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
So do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

Thankyou to all of you, it's really comforting to read all these lovely messages. We've had a really busy couple of days, and now all the arrangements are just about in place. I just hope I can do Dad proud on Wednesday 6th February. Just a quiet service, as not many of our relatives can come so far - mainly from the North East, and many pretty elderly. Will make sure his favourite music is played, and a poem or two recited.
Love to all of you, Lynda xx
