My first husband was 5 years older than me but I hated him. My second husband is 12 years younger than me and we've been married 29 years........ very happily.

I think it's the person that counts - not the age.......... as long as none of them are underage.

My Hubby is 5 years younger than me, I've always preferred younger men. He has never felt younger, though, and has always really looked after me.
My daughter is just the opposite. When she was 18, she finished with her boyfriend, who was five years older , and became engaged to his father, who was 46! We were mortified - thank goodness it didn't last!!

Well my wife is a cradle-snatcher as I’m 3 years younger!

Seriously though as long as both are of adult age and not vulnerable in any way I don’t see it’s anyone else’s business. I can see problems in later life when the younger partner may feel “trapped” but that’s something they will hopefully consider. Perhaps the 20 or 30 years of happiness are well worth the risk, after all many people of the same age will suffer similar troubles due to ill health.

Mmm now if I was a rich old man in my later years and a pretty young thing latched on to me……., what a way to go!

Mayfield :-D

My aunt married a man 18 yrs older. Difference never mattered - until he retired. As aunt said he came home, sat in front of tv and waited to die. He was healthy, had always been very active.

She being 47 and children married off, wanted to do things, nothing sensational, holiday, go out for the day etc. but no.

When she was 53 she married a widower - same age - and began life anew.

My ex was 9 years older than me and in his late 50's he became 'old' very quickly and set in his ways. I try to be young at heart and flexible. We divorced!

I think the fact that he was knocking on your door and not meeting her somewhere out of the way would speak volumes about his intentions.

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 6 Jan 2013 12:41

I'm like Hayley in that I'd be highly sceptical if a man over 20 came knocking at the door for my underage daughter.....however mature she may appear....

Rambling

Rambling Report 6 Jan 2013 12:32

If the relationship works it works, but I think it depends on the 'maturity' of those involved rather than the age.....

SheilaSomerset

SheilaSomerset Report 6 Jan 2013 12:32

I don't see why a minor should be treated any better or worse on his/her 'dates' by a 25 year old than by one of the same age. It's all about trust and respect.

I would imagine, though, that a 25 year old with 'honourable intentions' may feel uncomfortable dating a minor and be concerned about parent's reactions!

Sharron

Sharron Report 6 Jan 2013 12:29

I always thought I would not want to be in a relationship with a man who was younger than me,it just didn't seem right.

Then OH came along, who is two and a half years younger than me.

Now I know just how right I was!

Yes I mean a minor :-D

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 6 Jan 2013 12:25

I'm of the opinion that age doesn't matter except as Hayley says if one of the partners involved is a minor.

...So I think you're ok Ann lol.

Silly Sausage Report 6 Jan 2013 12:22

I certainly would of had something to say if my daughter started seeing a man 10 yrs older or even 5 yrs when she was under 16 ...infact the bloke would of been set away with more that my boot in his backside. Yuk makes me skin crawl :-(
