Hi Liz.

I expect I will get used to the new one soon enough, I will certainly be glad when it arrives, lol.
At the moment I have the fridge items sitting in a box in the back porch,nice & cold in there so hoping things we are using everyday (butter,milk,cheese & the like) will keep ok until Thursday!
I took my fridge thermometer into the porch & within minutes it went down from the 70 mark to 50 so you can tell how warm it was in the non working fridge, glad it's still winter as the porch is a very sunny place in the summer.

Hope your new fridge/freezer arrives on time, fits perfectly and you adapt to the difference in colour etc. We take these things for granted til they pack up, don't we?

Well I am now £320 lighter having found a replacement fridgefreezer, £20 of it being the delivery charge!

The 2 outlets in town didn't have anything I liked,but one of them have a 2nd shop in Aberdeen & the lady checked with them to see if they had what I was looking for,they had just one left & still in it's box, & as I knew what it looked like etc (viewed the model online) & my daughter has the same one,I ordered it & handed over my money, it's to be delivered next Thursday!

Just been clearing out the broken one,& managed to get a few things into the outside freezer, a couple of bags of meat are being cared for by our friends at the village shop.
Some things we couldnt save as they have softened up, but it isn't much,a bit of veg & fruit & a tub of ice cream so all in all not too bad.

Not madly in love with the new fridge freezer but there you go, the new one is a Hotpoint, & silver in colour.

Thanks Wend... had a look at that site re the problem! doesn't appear to be the thermostat as there is a "working" noise coming from the freezer section,site says there would be NO noise at all if it was the thermostat!

Hi Shirley, thanks or your suggestion... yes I have looked online, can only find 2 models that I "like", that will fit into the space available in my kitchen, (Hotpoint & Beko) & even those are a touch wider than the current one,so it looks as though I am going to be very limited!

My current model is exactly 53cm wide, the nearest I have found so far is 54.5 cm which is snug!!

Off out just now to have a look round the 2 outlets in town,but not feeling very hopeful!

Have you looked online many companies now sell online and I have bought big items too online. Bought a new washer dryer one time as it was the earliest delivery we could get and it was promptly delivered and cheaper than the same one I had seen in the shops .

Edit.I didn't fully read Wendy's post so have said similar :-(

We have a spare fridge/freezer in our utility room which is 34 years old! Only the fridge section required a new thermostat about 10 years ago. As the engineer said when he fitted it - 'Good German make, they don't make them like this anymore'.

Joan, there are various websites for advice on fridge/freezer problems. One I looked at is fridgeshop.net, which looks reliable. You can ring them for advice too.

Hope you solve the problem satisfactorily one way or the other, without too much expense :-)

Oh crikey yes I had forgotten about the C heating boiler.

So we have already had the 3 happenings, so hopefully we will be ok for a while, lol.

Hi Joan, I am ok thanks, hope you are too, and your daughter is getting on ok in her new home nearby.

You do seem to have bad luck with your household things, what with the boiler and the water pump etc, hope there won't be anything else now. Have you tried cleaning out the drain hole at the back of the fridge, I use a cotton bud for ours.

Always the same isn't it, we have just had the expense of having to buy a new pump (£200) for our water supply, what with buying that & having to get an electrician in to deal with the power supply to the pump,which was damaged when the pump broke down I had hoped we wouldn't have another expense to deal with just yet!!

Unfortunately the F/F is a must for most folk these days,definately is for me, just hope there won't be a 3rd breakdown!

What, my very smart stainless steel F/F in the garage, never, & it's a Candy, LOL.

It has worked well for us during the 12 yrs, if I could get the same one again I would, have found one similar, dimensions, capacity, but only comes in white, white is no use, it would look completely out of place in my kitchen, St steel it has to be.
A black one might / should work as the cooker is Black / St steel.

Unable to switch off to check out the things you mention,the freezer section is full & I have nowhere to store the food in the meantime!
The freezer section does seem to be working as all the food in it is still solid,it has not softened at all.
Hoping to go out today to see what is available locally,just hope the freezer section will keep going until a suitable replacement it found!

my last F/F did exactly the same thing, that one was put out into the garage all that time ago & the freezer section on it continues to work, freezer section is much smaller than the one in the house & as it is full I am unable to transfer the food from the kitchen one into the outside one!

I have Beko tall freezer and no trouble,,touch wood,,,,

Joan has a fridge freezer,,,,it maybe the gas has leaked and needs regassing,,,,,but one as old as 12years it maybe time for an update.....

I have had my Beko about 7 years now and noproblems whatsoever. It has a bloomin hard life too :-D

They must all have money to burn ... certainly not landl,ords.
What do they do when hubbie breaks down? Send out for a new one? Of course they do.

Has it been in a garage / outhouse ? This is a common problem in that case.
Blockage in the drainage pipes also poss cos of freezing.
Thermostats sometimes go out of calibration.

Either way get it somewhere at something like room temp. > 10 C anyway.
Turn thermostat to highest temp.
Empty everything inc feezer Use cold bags)
Leave it 4 hours with doors open, switched off.
Check no blockages in drain pipes.
Close doors, switch on.
Gradually reduce temp to required level in the fridge.
90% chance it will work.
If it doesn't then it may just need a new thermostat (cheap, ez to fix).
Otherwise probably the compressor and then you need a replacement.
A reliable 3 yr fridge freezer with warranty is about £ 150, same model £ 400 new. The new ones are as likely to snuff it as the older ones...

Don't get BEKO, CANDY, or those trendy but very unreliable SMEGs.

fridge freezers quite often are run off the same compressor, so if its freezing but the fridge is warm, there is a gadget that limits the cold temperature to the fridge....might only be your thermostat in the fridge section......

Hi everyone, thanks for the replies.

It's about 12 years old, really like the model,stainles steel,nice "quiet" one, I hate having to replace an item I really like!
Only got 2 outlets in our small town for fridgefreezers, the nearest large town is 35 miles away, been looking online this afternoon at various places but haven't see any that I like so far, hope the freezer part keeps going until I can find something like the one we have at the moment, the present one looks so nice, I will be dissppointed if I cannot find a suitable replacement.

With the cost of callouts and spares, I would a new one, especially if its a few years old. New ones use less power as well.

Our dishwasher broke a part recently and the costof replacing it and the labour cost more than the new dishwasher.

Depends how old it is......the older models arent worth the bother,although it could be just needs a gas reload....but a call out can cost towards £100+.then what else may go wrong?

Probably cost you more to get it repaired, get a new one.
Lots of bargains around at the moment, should be able to pick one up for a few hundred pounds.
