Anyone found anything that works? I am getting tired of putting them out of the kitchen.

DazedConfused Report 8 Apr 2013 12:46

Old wives tale

You ask them to leave nicely

I know it's odd but it is supposed to work

But honestly, once they are in the house, that means that the nest or nests are truly large and Non-lethal remedies will not work. Nippon

As my mum used to say, they Nippon and Nippoff

AnninGlos Report 8 Apr 2013 12:51

We use nippon but obviously it is lethal to the ants.

Nyx Report 8 Apr 2013 12:51

I've asked them nicely PP

I know the bit of garden by the kitchen is their favoured spot, I gave up trying to plant potatoes there because of it. I do try not to kill anything though if I can avoid it. :-D

Mayfield Report 8 Apr 2013 12:55

I'v heard that bathroom talc sprinkled across their runs confuses them, worth a try.

At least they will smell nice!

Kay???? Report 8 Apr 2013 13:09

spray bottle,,,,white vinegar and little water,,,,,,,spray where they are running ,,,the vinegar kiils any smells that ants are attracted to,make sure all areas are free of crumbs.....

use when needed till they get the message,, :-D :-D

or attract them back outside by putting something sweet away from the house,,

Nyx Report 8 Apr 2013 13:14

Thanks Ann, Mayfield and Kay, I will try both those suggestions :-)

BrendafromWales Report 8 Apr 2013 13:28

So you've had ants as well Rose,
I put up a thread just over a week ago....Ants....and I got a few replies which I tried...took a few days but I tried baking soda and sugar on a 2p coin.sprayed vinegar and water an rubbed skirting boards with citronella oil.
Never had ants in the house ...maybe they were too cold outside!,

ChrisofWessex Report 8 Apr 2013 13:33

Kay is right - try vinegar - I have found it works.

Merlin Report 8 Apr 2013 13:34

Buy an Ant Eater :-D :-D

Nyx Report 8 Apr 2013 13:40

Brenda I must have missed your thread, I think you are right about them being cold!

I will give the vinegar a go definitely, though I am very tempted by Merlin's suggestion :-)

Lyndi Report 8 Apr 2013 15:32

I read somewhere that the smell of clove oil will have them running, not tried it because since I got the clove oil I haven't seen any in the house :-D

jgee Report 8 Apr 2013 15:39

I always put spanish onions in their worked door step and in kitchen

we had them yearly.. our garden backed on to the woods..

ButtercupFields Report 8 Apr 2013 15:51

I put a mixture of lemon juice and water and sprayed it everywhere when I saw them marching into my home. They have never darkened my doorstep since! :-D

Nyx Report 8 Apr 2013 15:53

whispers so they don't hear....I think it's working shhhhhhh

Kay???? Report 8 Apr 2013 16:13

Kay???? Report 8 Apr 2013 16:13

are they black ants Rose?

AnninGlos Report 8 Apr 2013 16:19

which one is working Rose? The vinegar?

Nyx Report 8 Apr 2013 17:09

Kay yes they're black ants

Ann, the vinegar, I have mopped the floor with it and then sprayed round the edge with it neat with a bit of lemon juice mixed in.

fingers crossed! :-D
