Diabetes is close to my heart as a cause. I must have been very close to contracting it 10 years ago. Severe health scare and had to give up work for 18 months. Very deep depression and all my BP, cholestrol, blood sugars etc were at dangerous levels. Seem fine now - thanks for asking :-) ;-)

But younger brother died 4 years ago - and he had never taken any notice of doctors till he contracted diabetes about 3 years before he died aged 58. Death was a heart attack, but the fact that he took his tablets when he felt like it must have contributed :-( :-(

On a happier note, one of my gt gt grandfathers was a sheep farmer from Sedbergh called Lawrence LUPTON (born 1817 from memory). They were mainly Methodists, but I have often wondered if they may have been Quakers before that. So that lovely meeting house was probably very familiar to my ancestors :-) :-) :-)

Thank You Toots,
By an odd quirk, the eating disorder was indirectly caused by a different auto immune condition a few years back.
Whilst still at school, she developed hyper thyroidism.
It was the medication to treat this that caused a huge weight gain.
She eventually opted for rado active iodine to stop the thyroid working.
It took about a year for everything to settle down, and then decided to go on a health kick, lose the extra weight and get fit, active...and healthy.
Unfortunately the health kick worked so well that her ideas on a healthy diet became skewed.
She realised that she was unable to stop the weight loss.... asked for help and has never looked back.

I think your avatar is great GlasgowLass and it's better to advertise well ahead of the event so more people are aware.

I'm sorry to hear about your daughters diabetes but pleased that she has overcome her eating disorder. Both are enormous challenges for her and the rest of the family.

Thankies John
I changed my Avitar again.
I know it's premature but changed it in advance of Diabetes Awareness week.

Dau No1 was diagnosed with Type1 in Jan of this year.
It has been a challenge for her (and us) especially because many people don't know the difference in types.
Working alongside an older generation who, although well meaning, think they can offer dietary advice and insist that she shouldn't be eating fruit or sweets.
They also make it quite clear that her diabetes is the result of a ( well recovered from) eating disorder.
She can't get through to them that:
Type 1 is an auto immune condition and is not connected to Anorexia.! <3

John - it's a meeting house in Sedbergh.

Sylvia always says where her avatars are in the Researching box at the bottom.

And Emma seems to have a lot of children up there in Arctic Circle - all very lovely :-D

I get very concerned when it seems that a post has been reported just because it is expressing an opposite view to either the OP, or to someone else who has been posting on the thread.

Or one that seems to have been reviewed solely because the poster is disliked by another member.

It is all to easy to pick a suitable reason from that drop down list, or make up a reason to put in the 'Other" category.

Reporting a post that is expressing an opposing view , or because a person is disliked, is simply not on .................... it's discriminatory AND also against any ideas of free speech, and democracy.

I have NOT had a post RR'd on here .............. but I did have 2 posts RR'd and then removed on another thread between Sunday and Monday

The reason given by GR for one removal was ..............

......... it breaches the following message board guideline:

3. Your general conduct

Please do not post anything might appear intimidating to other Members.

Please do not communicate material that deviates from the topic of the message board thread - start a new topic if you'd like to.

TootyFruity unless you sneaked in a post containing the whole script of an episode of Mrs Brown's Boys when I wasn't looking, I didn't see you post anything that could be described that way .

I have just sent two emails to GR regarding my removed posts. On one GR email regarding a post which was removed I was accused of being vulgar, profane and/or offensive. I would never intentionally post anything along those lines. I would therefore appreciated it if members could tell me if they where as stated.

I apologise to anyone who found them so but unless anyone tells me how am I to know where I went so horribly wrong.

Excuse me if I appear to be a bit thick, but "discussing old posts" that have been RRd then replaced seems rather a strange comment to make, when threads go on for years and posts are commented on and added to all of the time. Please tell me if I am missing something.

Mine got removed by the Team and was not reported by another member.

I am really tempted to post it again as no mention was made of it being against the T&C's or message board guidelines
