GlitterBaby - sorry but you have lost me - offer to send an attachment - wow.

I've never ever in my life offered - I just send to make a point or to explain myself.
The emails I get everyday likewise have so many attachments - nobody asks me.

I've just started to send to GR and they have acknowleged.
Though agree that content in the body of an email would make it more obvious

Best of luck any way you choose :-D :-D

Just tried the 'snipping too' - thank you for the information. A very handy tool to have.

If you choose the "Save as..." option in the Snipping Tool you can also choose whether to save as Jpeg, GIF or PNG which can be very useful

Errol - I saved a couple of old newspaper items regarding an ancestor of mine. I didn't know how to save them before so this tool is invaluable. I've put them into a document file and will be able to print them off easily for my brother's family history file.

I just stole a pic from facebook using the snipping tool rather than how I usually do it, by right clicking and save as....I then saved to jpeg so could use it as a profile pic, rather then messing about as I have had to in the past with some of my pics

As a general rule of thumb save photographs as Jpegs and low resolution images of fewer colours as GIFs or PNGs. GIFs and PNGs (which are sort of similar) may use far fewer colours than Jpegs so are not suitable for photographs but are perfect for images you want to use on the internet - particularly simple designs or icons.

For example, the emoticons on here are PNGs because they are simple designs with few colours and so do not need the complexity or depth of a Jpeg which would be a larger file size and thus take longer to load. Similarly, you could save your avatar as a GIF or PNG if it is really simple.

GIFs and PNGs are very similar in many ways and both support transparency but PNGs are more complex - almost giving a happy medium between GIFs and Jpegs.

GIFs only support 256 colours whereas PNGs and Jpegs may support well over 16 million colours.

GIF - Graphics Interchange Format (developed by Compuserve back in the 80s)
PNG - Portable Network Graphic (largely developed as a replacement for GIFs)
Jpeg - Joint Photographic Experts Group (digital cameras usually save images as Jpegs)

I started going to a Computer class for Seniors last year.

I had stuck my head in the sand long enough! I'm amazed at what I've learned.

Lots of people here seem to be computer gurus, and are very helpful <3

I think I've done about six screenshots in my life, and I keep forgetting how to do them!

Where are my pinking shears..........?

:-)

I really like the snipping tool can send extracts from my Legacy Tree to people without having to print then scan into a pdf to send via e-mail. My recipients are very happy as well.

Of course I have to use the rectangle snip... my free range leaves a lot to be desired in fact one of mine looked more like Errol the sheep than a square.
