Glad others like the jelly cubes did anyone have a trifle with a jam roll first then the jelly over it . It tasted that bit better than a plain sponge. Any other versions always willing to learn

We didn't have a fridge when I was small and jellies had to cool in the safe. But in my mother's day they would leave them to cool on the shady side of the house. This was where the bathroom was and so my mother made two jellies and placed them on the window sill to cool and set in the cold air.

The horses were in the paddock right outside the bathroom and one of them went up to the window and put his head in the jellies and blew bubbles in them.

Yes, me too. I use the jelly cubes and always eat the last one lol.
Jelly and custard a simple delicious sweet with shades of childhood for hubby and myself.

When first married and without the luxury of a fridge, I used to dissolve the jelly and run water in the bath to set the jelly...... no kidding. A bucket with water kept our bottled milk cool all those years ago. Happy days back then.

Thanks also for the Jelly on a Plate rhyme which I had forgotten about but this has quickly come back to mind with the Sausage in a Pan too but can't recall the other verses. No prizes for guessing who will be having jelly and custard after lunch!

My sister used to eat the cubes, under the illusion it made your nails stronger.
I didn't.
Guess who has the longest, strongest nails?

They're a right faff to cut, but at least I don't need a staple remover at work. :-(

Must look for the Harlleys jelly cubes at the supermarket thanks for telling me.
Youngest grandaughter will love this

I use Halal jelly - the reason is because it sets quickly in any temperature and isn't so sweet as the normal classic jelly. I add loads of fruit - this time of the year it is strawberries - sometime it's frozen fruit.

Just measure out 400ml of boiling water - add powder, stir well and hey presto result.

Little grandson has it down to an art.

When I was young it used to be Rowntree's Jelly but just googled it and ......shock horror .....the brand was discontinued in 2005 :-(

The good news is that it now sold under the Hartley's brand which is owned by the same Company :-)

Got Hartley's jelly in my cupboard - that's in cubes. Granddaughter loved tearing the cubes apart and watching them dissolve - shame she didn't like the jelly :-D
