Has it got up and gone?

Its a 2009 Ford Fiesta Zetec 1600 diesel
it goes to a Ford Main dealer for its service etc

it occasionally gets a blow on the M20 down to daughters at Hawkinge nr Folkestone
but thats not often as she works full time all week

When grandson is here in the school holidays I do take him to the cinema in Rochester so it does get a short blow on the M2 from Rainham

I dont feel inclined to take the car just for a drive as I need a purpose to a journey ,but thats just me

if hubby was here we would be doing more trips but i have lost my get up and go a little bit :-\

How about a run down to Canterbury or up to Bluewater? There should be some sections of the M2 where you could get it up to 50 or 60, even 70 on a ‘good’ day!

sounds ok but will do no good at all and very likely damage except for pre 1980.
Much better option which will work is to use hi grade 95 octane all the year round and tell yr mech to take it ez on the A20M.

btw check mech's insurance if he is taking it on the highway inc points. Insurance for garages is restrictive and expensive some cut corners. Owners tend to find out the hard way. Also for expensive motors check credit rating. It took a mate months to get his Ferrarri back after the garage went bust.

They pick the car up to take it for its service

It's the same guys every year and the one who drives the car said remind me next year you do low mileage and I will give it a bash in second gear to clear it before I get to the service dept

They have to drive on a dual carriage way to Maidstone for part of the journey can can let it goooooo

I had a Ford Capri 1600 GT Auto for a time and was often doing jobs in the Huddersfield/Bolton/Liverpool areas, traveling up from Essex.

Not so much traffic then so was able to do the motorways at a steady 95.

I remember reading the car mags from the time and they suggested that a good blast was a run from Apex Corner to Watford Gap Services.

the uk 70 mph came in end of1965.
A long way to go for a motorway blast for many.
In the early 70s I had a .mini CooperS which hated starting. In the end I ran some HT starter cable to a heavy duty starter button under the seat. No more starting problems.; I think a new battery was a fiver.
I know we used to do 90mph in it but a few gentle miles in a restored mini recently and I was a gibbering wreck with a knees problem.

I always dreamed of having one that would go that fast!

In my youth we used to call a good high speed run to blow out the soot "An Italian tune-up".
And that was before cat converters were even thought of.
And also before the 70mph limit was brought in.

Nowadays the boy racers achieve the same result by driving round town in second gear.

We have owned two cars in the past with battery problems. In both case the battery kept running down unexpectedly and the garage were unable to offer an explanation, other than the battery might need replacing.

The first was a Golf in the late 80's. The culprit was faulty switch which failed to turn off the boot light when the boot door was closed. I happened to spot it by chance on a very dark night when the street lights had failed to come on and there was a very faint glow visible in the back of the car.

The second was an Audi in the 90's. This time it transpired the battery was low on electrolyte. It was before the time batteries were sealed but well after the time you needed to top them up with distilled water every few months and so the garage never even though to check the level.

It was only on a whim I decided to remove the plug in the top of the battery and realised the level was low. A top up with distilled water and full charge and it never put a foot wrong again.

Looks like it will be some time in the first two weeks of November as that is when OH has booked holiday.

yeah, a motorway tune up works wonders, get that cat nice n hot!!!

Guess I am lucky cos it's a good car,first time it's had a problem although it's mot in July it initially failed because of emissions
It was in for its annual service and mot and they quickly sorted it with some additive and some running it to clear the clog
Just using for local runs isnt good for the engine. As my hubby would say it needs a good blow every now and then on a motorway
