The local yobs decided that it would be fun to throw fireworks in the corner shop. For myself, I thought it best to spend the evening in the pub.

Well it could find out who pinched ya pumpkin and who threw all the sweet wrappers on your drive....... Bob.

DNA blah blah blah has what exactly to do with Hallowe'en?

DNA analysis of ancient bones from the bronze age (Celts) and modern people in places such as Cheddar and Yorkshire indicate that at least half of those with an ancestor b England before 1946 have Celtic genes. For Cornwall and Devon the figure is higher. The invading Saxons and Danes destroyed the Celtic culture but not the gene pool.

Halloween can be good fun in countries that "get it". That does not apply to young or old in England where the generations are increasingly walled off from each other. France gets it so OH had candlelit pumpkins and lots of treats. The singing and mass band of iphones annoyed the neighbours.

I got pumpkin and carrot soup plus a silly hat.

I went to bed early
Had the tv on but as usual it sent me off to sleep so if anyone called I didn't hear them

Woke up at 11.30 and turned the tv off and settled down again

We have the same in our village Sue. i didn't have anyone call but apparently there were lots of children out who had a lovely evening. :-D

We didn't have any this year either :-D

Grandkids go with their Mum but there is an understanding where they live - if the garden/front door are decorated they would like kids to knock. If the house is not decorated you avoid it like the plague. It is a system that works well.

O.h. was on late shift and I went out about 6.45pm and didn't get back till after 8pm! By that time, all was quiet!

COR!!!! I'm so disappointed...Nobody called here in Oxfordshire for "Trick or treatt"..I bought a bag of each,,fun size Twix and Milky Way....I suppose I'll have to eat them myself... Oh well!!! I'll be thinking of the ""little darlings"" who missed out...
If anyone wants to share I'll be up till about 11.30 pm...Knock three times and don't say BOO!!! You might frighten the cat....

I have all lights off in the front and locally on Facebook it has been published about not knocking unless there are decorated pumpkins on display. However we have had one lot, we could see on the TV (we have a camera) that it wa little ones so I opened the door on the latch and checked it was five little ones with a young mum. I had a few sweets I could give them, they were all dressed up. I then told the mum she should not be knocking where there are no obvious lights as elderly people get frightened. I think she understood but I wouldn’t hold my breath she was no more than a child herself. Hopefully there won’t be any more.

I'm sat here on edge, as I can hear them passing by - but they're not passing by fast enough :-| :-| :-| :-|

I totally agree. I hate it and have succumbed in the past, but no more. I haven't been bothered over the last couple of years but there are several more children around again now. It will be a firm 'no' from me if anyone knocks.

I dislike the 'trick or treat' thing quite a lot, unfortunately, when my daughter lived with me, she decorated pumpkins etc. Since she left (over 10 years ago) the still come around.
The other problem is, I used to work at the local school, and am seen as a 'safe' person children can visit :-( :-( :-( :-(


I used to buy sweets with high 'e' numbers (evil laugh).
I've bought small packets of Haribo's, which used to be full of additives (can't stand the smell), but, since they've taken out the 'e' numbers, I can't relish in the satisfaction of the children's hyperactivity when they eat them. :-| :-| :-| :-|

Luckily nobody ever comes here as we have a very long, very dark, very tree-y garden :-D

same as both of you ,a few years ago we had some boys knock on the door with sheets over them ,so I told them to buggier off ,they started to shout at me ,until hubby came out ,(he's a big chap).for some reason they didn't like that ,and ran off as fast as they could . had no trouble since . if any little ones come round. i have a few choc biscuits.. :-| :-|
