You might have a lovely surprise, Allan, and find that oblivion is even better!

Presumably the apprentice will be done for six points and £200 fine for driving without insurance.

I had a close call on that when I paid the insurance on my motorbike which I used to drive from mid Essex to Fitzrovia (Post Office Tower area) each day by credit card.
Three months later I got stopped on a random check in Seven Sisters Road and got told I had no insurance. The bike was impounded.

It transpired that the debit did not go through due to an incorrect digit. The monthly credit card bill mimics the National Debt and I look at the statement to check if there is something there which should not be rather than to check if everything is there which should be. The insurance company insisted they had written to me to tell me. I never received the letter which they had only sent once and had not followed up my failure to respond.
Anyway I paid the insurance and collected the bike from Greenwich with the normal £120 or so charge for transport and storage.

Luckily I was able to get the insurance company to certify that it was an administrative cock-up and that they would have covered me in the case of a claim in the "uninsured" period so avoided the £200 and six points.
