Shirley, I've just sent a pm to Kense who is also still getting the error message when using the advanced search function.

The error messages I was receiving did not appear to be caused by the same glitch affecting some others.

All I do know, and can comment on, is that my particular problem seems to have been solved for the moment, and I can now post on all threads, even those with thousands of posts, without a problem :-D

Actually all that was required was a bit more steam so I got OH to carry two buckets of coal at a time rather than one :-D :-D

Kathryn Report 14 Jun 2018 08:56

Allan, if your OH knew what you were saying you'd be kicking the bucket :-D

Allan

Allan Report 14 Jun 2018 21:49

OH is too busy carrying coal to read these threads :-P :-D :-D

Caroline

Caroline Report 14 Jun 2018 23:12

We dig our own coal, Caroline; we have a small mine just outside Collie. Guess who digs the coal :-D :-D :-D

Edit: here is the Wikipedia entry for Collie lest anyone asks what a sheepdog has to do with coal

Mrs Allan, you have my greatest sympathy- and I have a spare bedroom or two (that I pay £27 a week for when unemployed), that you may occupy!

Allan you don't deserve that Saint :-D :-D

Kathryn

Kathryn Report 15 Jun 2018 15:21

Better buy a bigger shovel Allan you're gonna need it when OH takes up Maggies
Offer :-D

Allan

Allan Report 15 Jun 2018 21:41

Well, OH and myself discussed Maggie's most generous offer, but decided against it :-(

The reason for this being that given the exchange rate the cost of the room would be approximately $47.00 per week whereas at the moment OH is only paying $35.00 per week full board (or was that totally bored?) so economically it would not make sense for her to move :-D

Besides she'd miss that cycle ride up the Collie hill each morning :-P :-D :-D

Kathryn

Kathryn Report 16 Jun 2018 18:01

But what happened to OH wages for coal shovelling?

Caroline

Caroline Report 16 Jun 2018 19:11

She's only allowed to spend her wages in the company store and Allan put the prices up.

Allan

Allan Report 16 Jun 2018 22:42

I will try to explain the economics of the situation so that even wrinklies and old f*arts can understand them :-|

To do this I will have to adopt the attitude of another well known poster who usually explains things succinctly in umpteen paragraphs ;-)

That particular poster would, however, not be using coal having a portable fusion generator mark 3 in his possession :-P

OH is not paid any wage to fetch the bulk coal, but does this to enable her to do the cooking. It's not just the computer that is steam driven but I've rigged up the flue so that the hot waste gasses pass through a modified electric oven.

I was looking at converting the whole house to be energised by steam, but that would involve two trips to Collie each day and even I agree that that's a bit too much as it would give OH no time to go down to the Collie River (we live near its mouth) to do the washing.

So the $35.00 per week is only a notional amount for board, not a physical one, but it does at least have the effect of OH believing that she is making a solid contribution to the household purse.

In exchange I insist that after OH has made my supper and done the washing up the rest of the night is hers to do with as she will, although she usually spends it repairing punctures to her bike or repairing her clothes. However, that is her choice.

I believe that you only get out of marriage what you put into it :-D :-D :-D

A succinct explanation of why, after decades, I've never bothered remarrying :-D

I am on 'friendly' terms with my ex, in that I no longer wish to remove the brake fluid, and am actually meeting him next weekend, where, as usual, I shall convey my condolences to his current wife ;-)
