That's great Florence! How silly of them not to have covered them up before they started plastering. Still, at least you have a good result and will soon be off the airbed. I must buy some of that stuff to try on my carpets. :-)

Thankyou all.

I have today ordered the clips and a new set of wheels which hopefully will be here by Saturday.
Went up stairs and the bases look ok so I think it made the plaster do a vanishing act as promised on the bottle!

The whole sorry saga would take up far too much room on here but these guys are an insulation company who put plastering/insulation in rooms with velux windows..ie room in a loft etc. They rush through from start to finish and do not take care whilst they are working.

When trading standards came around on Monday, I asked who exactly is paying them but she didn't know. Grants are made available to the energy companies who then get invoiced for the jobs.

They get invoiced when the job is done and get paid. Noone calls to check the work, no papers are signed and they never emailed the paperwork in the beginning .

The lady said , the system is flawed but the energy companies have this money and are happy to pay out as they can tick the boxes for the government.

What a disgrace. But apparently the money will run out in Sept so this and other companies will fold and then set up as something else. New boilers/heaters etc but never again will they set foot in this house I can assure you...

Not only did they make a mess of my bed, the standard of the joinery and plastering is so awful the owner doesn't want them anywhere near the house again and is going to get quotes from local builders to see how much it will be to reverse.

So if anyone else has a visit from a company offering insulation or other free energy saving things, please think very carefully before you agree to any work. Without paperwork, they are actually breaking the law, but when I pointed this out to them they ignored me!

The phoenix will rise again from the ashes...I am a survivor..Keep smiling

Great news, Florence. That bed will soon be ready for occupation again.

Those cowboy builders should be named and shamed but sadly too many get away with botching jobs and leaving people in a pickle.

I am glad you are on top of things now

The council are re-roofing my house (end of a 4 block terrace).
What warning did I get?
Well, I e-mailed on a Friday asking about the re-roofing, and whether they would be doing mine. Apparently, they would, but I'd get a weeks notice..
I replied, saying a week wasn't enough. I had stuff in the attic, should have been told this major re-furb was going to happen..
The following Monday, I came home from work to find scaffolding along the back of my house.
I pointed out that 2 days doesn't make a week, and the padlock on the side gate , though not locked, should indicate it wasn't a public right of way, and I had a 'right to privacy' - and a decent amount of warning..
I had a delegation out then, who informed me I would be informed of what was happening.
Of course, I wasn't/haven't been - but had (fortunately) removed a few plants from the area where the scaffolding would go in future.
Mid week (again no warning), scaffolding went up on the side and front of the house, blocking the narrow path, thus blocking my bins in the back garden.
Two months later, they actually started work on the roof!
Another two months - almost done - except for the area where (from the inside) I noticed gaps in the membrane.
Thunderstorms due.
Plastic ties and cardboard that held tiles litter my garden, as do crisp packets and broken tiles all dropped from above. Pots have been broken, plants crushed'
A 'safety scaffold' was put above the front door (thus ensuring I can't cut the laurel or jasmine) , I also use the unprotected back door and what remains of the side path more often.
Once the old tiles had been removed, this job should have taken 2 weeks maximum.
Oh yes - and bare chests, effing and blinding, and radio 1 blasting out so loudly that I can't hear MY radio, just isn't on!

I have found my 'stain cover' paint stuff, and am ready to repaint the bedroom ceilings if it rains (as long as the ceiling doesn't fall in), because I can't be bothered with more contractors coming round and bodging jobs.. :-|

maggiewinchester Report 6 Jul 2018 00:29

Liz, I had a leak from my hot water tank last October. No-one assessed the job.
Some 'plank' in an office told me my boiler and hot water tank CAN't be in the same cupboard - I was stood there looking at the boiler and tank in the same cupboard - and 'assumed' it was the boiler.
3 visits from boiler men, 3 weeks of water running down the walls, eventually I called 'out of hours' who confirmed it was the water tank (I couldn't do that 'cos I woz a woman').
January - they finally finished plastering and painting the damaged area - but managed to break a lampshade in the process, and used cheap paint to paint the hall - which left me with a 'tidemark'.
Oh, and I was meant to claim for my sodden carpet from MY insurance, despite their total incompetence.
Fortunately, being a practical skinflint, I put batons under the carpet, and it, and the sodden floorboards dried out.

...then, in March, the roof fiasco started.....

Oh yes, and in September, just before the leak. I slipped in Tesco and got delayed concussion. :-(

I hope misfortune and cr*p contractors doesn't come in 3 consecutive years :-| :-|

Oh god Maggie what an ordeal. It makes my builders look like angels!

Blooming cheek telling you to claim off insurance.

Did you take any photos showing everything like I did?

Im really sorry to hear what you have been through and I hope eventually your house and garden will be back to normal.

I just popped on to say, fantastic service! I received the clips and wheels I ordered yesterday afternoon and by 4pm, I had shifted the bases and mattress back into my bedroom. Bed is all made up ready and waiting for me later on.

I am not going to persue the matter any further with the company. I have decided that it is unlikely they will compensate me anyway and to be honest as I have managed to sort the bed myself, I have better things to do then argue and put my blood pressure up.I don't ever want to see that horrid man again otherwise I may just might retry my old judo moves on him..lol

I now have a 'reputation' to keep - the 'old bag' :-D :-D
I told the 'delegation', that when I worked on a building site (and I did), a yard boy cleared up every day.
Today there were three more empty 'dorito's' packets in my garden, plus an empty water bottle, and the number of plastic ties from the tiles - I just can't count! :-| :-|

Photos will be taken :-P

Florence61 Report 13 Aug 2018 13:19

Hello peeps. Thought I would just update you on the bad job the workmen did awhile ago.

My landlord came up recently and inspected the work. He was fuming so he put a scathing comment on their FB page.
Well within 20 mins the actual boss tel him and duly arranged to come with another manager to see for them selves.
I left them to go upstairs with my landlord and heard them discussing what could be done.
They agreed to send 2 experienced joiners. They came and ripped out all the wooden surrounds and completely redid them around the windows. They reordered curtain poles too.
They made a very good job.
They said the previous guys were bodgers and chancers!!

Anyway 2 guys are coming tom at 9 to finish off the painting around the frames and then that's it sorted.
As I sorted my bed Im not persuing it any further.
My landlord gave me a months free rent for the inconvenience which was £550.00 and the company have finally agreed to pay the cleaning bill to the landlord of £256.00

On Friday last week, an inspector came to inspect the work and complete a report. I was able to show him before and after pics. He wasn't impressed that they "don't do paperwork."

So eventually all's well that ends well but tbh if they had employed qualified people to start with, none of this would have happened.

So anyone calling next time offering to replace my boiler...ummmm….No No No!!

A fairly good result then Florence, especially getting a 'rebate'on the rent, the least your landlord could do!

Well that's it all sorted. Painters came and finished off. Laid dust sheets and wore covers on their boots. They hoovered up after them as was a little rubbing down.
All very polite and went smoothly. I think the boss told them to make sure it was done properly as they can't afford any more negative publicity as he rang when they arrived and then again to see how they were doing!

Phew !Can chill now, well rest of today and tom and then back to the little darlings..lol
