I have more than enough to watch thanks between US and Canadian plus Netflix plus anything on the internet for any TV station. Too much to watch too little time :-) but watching the Bodyguard as so many have recommended it, obviously not to everyone's taste.

Subscribe to a good vpn service and you can use iplayer.
Currently Sunday evening features le Carrie's "the Little Drummer Girl", excellent.

The Bodyguard is on Netflix, guess what I've started watching LOL

Aaagh, NOT Tom H, Rollo. He looks as though a wet dish cloth could see him off. :-0

I do agree with you about Killing Eve, though. I have seen all of the episodes and enjoyed them, even though the lack of a decent foe was inexplicable when you think of who does what to whom nowadays.

Caroline

Caroline Report 26 Sep 2018 16:24

Yes but it didn't work did it Rollo...well not on the right people anyway....

Explosives are so 1914 when a well placed bottle of Russian perfume will do the job without fuss.

Tom Hiddleston (the Night Manager ) is the obvious target for box set thrillers but is unlikely to be available for such tat as the bodyguard.

If you haven 't seen "Killing Eve" then do give it a try - it is on iplayer.

Never watched any of the series but my family
and friends did and they enjoyed it.
From what they have told me the bodyguard wasn't very
good at his job because the person he was guarding
got blown up....that tickled my sense of humour :-D :-D

Or did I get that wrong?

As Budd rides off into the sunset this has been an old-style western - goodies and baddies with the hero's girl with him at the end.

I'd love to see this as a series but for me I'd like to see another hero because Budd just didn't cut it for me, sorry, he almost had a childish pet lip at times. Shame about that because otherwise he fits the bill.

Not James Norton because he's absolutely too brilliant as a baddie (Happy Valley); sure looks good in a uniform though.

Aidan Turner (Poldark)?

Idris Elba?

There have been a few dark, brooding Welsh men on telly in the last few weeks so perhaps one of those may fit?

All fiction relies on fantasy of one sort or another there is nothing wrong in that. Building large blocks of plot on factual nonsense such as the hidden gun is avoidable.

The Home Secretary and London Mayor jointly appoint (and dismiss) the Chief of the London Met. but once in post he/she reports to the Mayor. Otherwise we would be well on the way to living in a police state.

That was the original thesis of "the Bodyguard" - Home Sec. Getting well above themselves - but it got lost along the way as the trials of Budd no I am not a bomber took over.

As a general rule of democracy politicians decide policy while professionals execute it. When politicians ignore this golden rule blood, tears and late trains are the inevitable result.

I wrote before mid-September that I was bored by it but I stuck with it.

Remember it is a fantasy, Rollo, so, as with other kinds of tales, nothing will ever be 100% correct.

I'm afraid Budd pouted a little too much for me - and I found that was the worst aspect of the show.

Nonetheless, no one had twigged on that the female at the beginning was the go-to-girl for bomb-making and I still think it was a nice twist.

Rollo, are you sure that the Head of the Met answers to the Mayor of London? It's my understanding that the Home Secretary takes precedence with the Mayor and at least one other body coming into the loop.

I could be wrong of course, because times change, but if so, I'd like to know when the Mayor took on the task that the Home Secretary had responsibility for.

I work in the media and have to watch all sorts of stuff like it or not.
There are lots of other negative reviews especially the closing episode.

The bones of the plot were OK if hardly original. Lazy / incompetent production and writing reduced it to a mess.

Remember this was a fictional drama..Altho quite realistic, of course there would be differences.
if you found it so boring Rollo, why did you not switch chanels…?

Boring beyond measure, utterly unreal but mostly harmless.
Whoever runs props and continuity should be fired.

Budd would have checked for live rounds as the gun is lighter and handles differently with blanks. 9mm blanks fired from zero distance will cause serious injury at least. Those installing the blanks would have worn thin plastic gloves. Simples.

Officers of MI5 are civil servants with no power of arrest. That is reserved to the police.

The head of the Met is answerable to the Mayor of London not the Home Secretary.

Well I managed to watch it this afternoon and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Gripping to the end.

I swayed back and fore between the two women- Lorraine Hayward and Anne Sampson as the "Inside Man"

Good to see a happy ending too :-)
