It is not only the Australians that eat the animals on their national flag, why do you think there are no unicorns left. And, yes, I know they are not on out flag, but HM's coat of arms. Or somewhere.

Just remember what happened the last time I was on a submarine :-0

Caroline

Caroline Report 13 Feb 2019 12:35

Don't do that Allan I need someone to sail in the yellow submarine with :-D

Allan

Allan Report 13 Feb 2019 12:25

I might just disappear into the back of beyond, to converse with the drop bears :-P

Caroline

Caroline Report 13 Feb 2019 11:28

That told us Allan :-S

Your sense of humour is just fine Allan :-)

But all the towns and people seem
To fade into a bad dream
And the steel rails still ain't heard the news
The conductor sings his songs again
The passengers will please refrain
This train has got the disappearing railroad blues

Allan Report 13 Feb 2019 10:31

I didn't mean to start a dialogue on drop bears , nor on 'trivialising yer country', but I just found it very refreshing that a National Institution could actually do a tongue in cheek, pseudoscientific description, of a non-existent urban myth.

Obviously, my sense of humour needs urgent surgical intervention :-(

Caroline

Caroline Report 13 Feb 2019 10:15

Ahhh Wolfe....isn't there a roundabout basically where he died so a bit like life going round and round the same disagreements :-).....no Polar bears though..

I will always remember going to Expo 67 in Montreal, before we even knew we would end up living here.

We went into the British Pavilion, and they had the audacity to have as the centre piece a very famous painting of the death of Wolfe on the Plains of Abraham. You went up an escalator and it was facing you at the top. No way to avoid seeing it!

We spotted it immediately and both got the giggles ........... but I don't know how many other visitors spotted the joke.

Yes, we can all make jokes about our own country, or make serious comments or complaints against what has happened ........... but I still maintain that we do it from a point where we know what it's about, not picked at random from google.

Caroline

Caroline Report 13 Feb 2019 03:47

Maybe from Rollo but I'm sure many of us have had things to say about the place over the years :-)

Let's not even start on the fact the French lost Canada but still act like they won :-)

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 13 Feb 2019 03:16

Haven't you realised that Rollo only ever finds the bad about countries?

I'm sure he must spend much of his time googling for "bad things about (name of country)"

Unfortunately many of us know far more about our countries than he does so that anyone of us can counter whatever is posted ........... and we might joke about them but it is friendly jibes not nasty ones.

I think France usually escapes condemnation.

Caroline

Caroline Report 13 Feb 2019 02:45

and I'd gladly stick with Allan he's good company......as long as he brings his didgeridoo.... :-D :-D

"Trivialising the fate of Yr own country. Pathetic.
Stick with Allan and yellow submarines. "

Yeah never actually did that as I didn't really make a serious comment on my beloved country.....but hang on.....don't you slag off the UK every chance you get???
I'm many things..knackered being the main one right now having shoveled again....but pathetic I am not sweetie. If you want to slag Canada off at least stick to one main subject one minute it's Polar bears roaming the streets then it's subs and planes....no country is without fault so don't even go there Rollo :-)

I think you might indeed be the only ones!

I was told by someone who had experienced it that girls brought from the Pacific islands and put into boarding schools in Australia were constantly fed kangaroo.

I must say that I liked kangaroo the only time I've had it ............. served with a berry sauce.

Allan

Allan Report 12 Feb 2019 23:59

How's this for trivia; I think that Australians must be the only people who consume the two animals that appear on the National Coat of Arms :-D

maggiewinchester Report 12 Feb 2019 23:54

Yes, how very dare you trivialise the fate of your own country - when it's RTR's job!

I mean, his turning every bl**dy post into a 'RTR's view on Brexit' is soooooo
un-enlightening on a genealogical forum.
I wouldn't say so much trivialising, as just plain boring.

Find yourself a political forum to flaunt your alleged political knowledge - have a 'proper' political 'discussion' with people who want to hear.
That's what the rest of us who want to 'talk politics' do.
