But money for the Duchy of Cornwall does come from the Public via rents etc it is still not 'private' income, just not income paid directly from the Government coffers

Rambling Report 10 Jan 2020 22:09

No one, certainly not the British press, know what arrangements might be made, whether the Queen will want them to continue any Royal duties even if that's their intent, whether Meghan will go back to acting etc etc. it is all just speculation until something is sorted. We might as well try and guess the numbers in the lottery, just as much chance of getting it right :-)

I know, Lyndi, but like all money it must originate somewhere. :-)

I suppose that I'm splitting hairs, but the old feudal system of paying tithes etc just annoys me. I think that I'm, a closet socialist ;-) :-D :-D

Although only here for a few days I feel for the queen that they didn't bring the baby for the queen ,Charles or William to have -family time for a day or so.,,,it will be sad if he grows up without physical contact of grandad, uncle and cousins or gt granny cuddle.

Perhaps the titles should go and become just Mr &Mrs Windsor......

Hasn't Harry a large inheritance from his Mother Diana ?

Kay????

Kay???? Report 10 Jan 2020 22:49

Prince Charles privately owns the Duchy of Cornwall estate - but it is considered a public asset because it has been gifted to the heir to the throne by every British monarch since 1337
.
Its special royal status also gives Charles an exemption from corporation tax and capital gains tax - but he voluntarily pays around £4.8million in annual income tax

I'm a closet socialist too Allan ( allegedly) , 'in an ideal world' and all that lol, but by the same token if I choose to rent out a house I own to a tenant and then give a percentage of the profit to my son, that is my money to do with what I will. From what I've seen Charles' tenants seem reasonably happy with the way he manages things, if they don't like it they can always go , as can we all -)

I have just watched the news, a report from where H & M stayed in Canada, it looked lovely.

People want to go elsewhere for a multitude of reasons. Every morning at the moment there is the "Wanted down under" programme showing, couples thinking about emigrating for the outdoor life, the sunshine, better pay or shorter hours, it's not a crime to want something different. The way the UK is at the moment especially. There IS a different atmosphere here, than even 10 years ago, and in some areas of life it is quite uncomfortable, perhaps 'unsettling' is a better word? ....and that's without the rantings of the gutter press, and 'others'.

David,

a rough estimate only, after investment of their inheritance from Diana in a trust fund, Harry and William got about £20 million each when they turned 30 ( before they paid 40% tax on it) plus jewellery etc. It's reckoned he's worth abt 30 million give or take ;-)

Meghan is worth an estimated £3.8 million also.

Rose .................

that house looks great.

It is owned by a very mysterious billionaire who refuses to reveal his identity, he MIGHT be a Russian oligarch who doesn't live in Russia but MAY live in California or somewhere in the US.

He is known by David Foster who is married to Katherine McPhee, who allegedly was at school with Meghan (or perhaps it was KM's sister and KM knew her through the sister). KM introduced Meghan & Harry to David Foster. DF was born in Victoria but is now big in the music world and spends much of his time in California.

He introduced Harry and Meghan to the house owner, who it seems loaned them the house ....... did they pay? Who knows, but it was up for rent for around $10,000 a week at one point.

The house has been on the market for over $10 million Canadian (almost £5.9 million) for about 4 or 5 years.

It's all very mysterious, and has caused much interest in this area for years!

Rambling Report 10 Jan 2020 23:48

I hadn't see the house Sylvia ( will go and google) it was an interview with ramblers who had seen M & H walking in the woods on Vancouver Island. I am sure it's not always as tranquil as it looked, but given I am being kept awake at night by noise, anything that looks peaceful and green 'calls' to me :-)

Edit. very nice, some of the furnishings are a little elaborate for my tastes, but the views and the garden would suit me fine :-)

SylviaInCanada Report 11 Jan 2020 03:30

Rose .............

I thought a lot of the furnishings were "yucky", not my taste at all!

But the house and surrounding 10 acres are great. Lots of TV interviews on local stations with a reporter standing outside the very elaborate wrought iron gates which havewhite plastic stretched across the inside so no-one can see through into the grounds.

There are also reports that H&M made the neighbours sign non-disclosure agreements, though I don't know how they would be enforced ;-)

Local shopkeepers now talking about visits ....... again on local TV news shows.

"There are also reports that H&M made the neighbours sign non-disclosure agreements, though I don't know how they would be enforced"

Sounds familiar. I'm sure other royals have done this - William and Kate?

Just read Caroline's comment 'if you are paid tax payers money then you need to perform'

I know a lot of people who get paid tax payers money and don't perform - from working class through to the House of Lords ;-)

I find it hard to compare the D of Sussex with the late Diana, P of Wales. One went into marriage young and starry-eyed with little worldly experience.

The other went into it a mature woman in her late 30s who, while not a star, may still, at times, have elbowed her way into roles in order to make a living. The cut-and-run behaviour is that of a young, immature person, not that of a mature woman approaching her 40s.

Contrast that with the role of the Queen, handed a huge responsibility at a younger age, one which, in my opinion, she has carried out to perfection. Yes, she knew it was bound to happen, but not so early.

It must have crossed the minds of the Q and P Charles, however, whether the D of Sussex is now hoping to get some starring roles because of her royal connection and, if so, what will Harry do to keep occupied? That's why I can't see HM or P Charles cutting off the family completely.

Because of the wording of the couple's statement (as I mentioned earlier), H and M have not quite burned their bridges so it will be interesting to see how it all pans out.

Camilla and Kate have had enough nous to play their roles to perfection. Meghan must surely have realised what was expected of her. Personally, I would have been quite happy to shake a few hands, pay a few visits and smile for photos in order to be kept in a style I could easily become accustomed to. It is not arduous work in my book.

Caroline Report 11 Jan 2020 13:03

Lyndi I quite agree anyone with their hand in the public purse should perform but some are paid to perform more than others :-)
At the end of the day he always knew he'd get further away from the crown the more kids his brother had no surprise there....she married into a firm that didn't hide what they thought her role would be.
To now say that's not what they want but they still want to do after dinner talks or sell items with Royal connections just doesn't work. Reduce their workload by all means if it's too stressful for them, but as in the real-world less work less money.....they'll still be more than comfortable.
