A couple of weeks ago we went to Perth for my brother's birthday celebration.

This was held at the Casino complex in Perth and consisted of an all you can eat buffet, but with high quality foods of all description and nationalities, very nice and although seemingly expensive was actually very good value for money.

We decided to stay at one of the three hotels associated with the site and had an excellent stay.

So, as this year is our fiftieth wedding anniversary, we decided that we would go back there and pay for our two children to stay and for the buffet. Other members of the family could also attend, but at their cost.

Went to book, only three rooms available, which is all we need, but the price is now over twice as much, $460.00 per room.

Other hotels in close proximity booked out :-|

The reason? The following Sunday is Father's Day in Australia.

OK, a quick rethink. We could do something as a family either earlier or later, when my son's shift roster allows, and OH and myself could do a river cruise in Europe.

The dates we are looking at are during European school holidays.

Many cruises booked out and those cabins available are over double the price outside the High Season :-|

I perhaps should have had a bit more foresight fifty years ago and chose a different wedding day (which we did actually change as my mother would have been in Australia on our first choice)

Fish and chips anyone? :-D :-D

My cousin, who was nearly forty-nine, was very busy planning a secret golden wedding celebration for her parents when one of the old 'uns in the family took her aside and explained tat they were actually only coming up to their forty-ninth.

Kay, we were planning on going to Canada for our fortieth, but that got tangled up as well :-S :-D :-D

Sharron, this definitely our fiftieth, and even though my son was born two days before our anniversary, the two events were six years apart :-D :-D

Get champagne oysters red roses. For your OH you can have fish & Chips now how about renewing your vows . :-)

Allan

Allan Report 16 Jan 2020 11:43

Very romantic, Barbra, but oysters are what caused the cruise misery :-D

I did suggest renewing our vows a few years ago, at the Ukrainian Church in Perth. I only just survived the attack ;-) :-D :-D

We did arrange our marriage to avoid August Bank Holiday, the first Monday in August then. It is now the last Monday and inevitably is in any holidays we take over our anniversary (27th). This year, being our Diamond wedding we thought we would go back to Jersey (where we spent or honeymoon and a couple of subsequent holidays). The hotels we were looking at were horrendously expensive since the last time we went ten years ago. So we are going to Lanzarote instead and compensated by going to a more up market hotel than we would usually go to there.

Ann, there are still many alternatives for us. We could go to Tasmania, a place which we have visited a few times and which we really like, but the other problem is that our anniversary also falls at the end of the Australian Football league build up to the finals, and depending on who is playing domestic airfares also go through the roof.

We do have the cash, but would prefer not to be ripped off through no fault of our own :-| :-D :-D

Hope you can find something suitable to do Allan. When will you know the football fixtures, always a chance they won't affect you.

They'll probably be greasy and soggy the way my luck is going in trying to organise something :-( :-D :-D :-D

Allan ..............

what about the following week?? Is that any better?

You and OH could have a quiet celebration on THE day.

Our anniversary is also in August (the 12th), and we had our 50th in 2017. That is also the high season here, and everywhere was highly expensive. I wanted to go to Quebec City as I had never been there. As we only have the one daughter and all but one of our very close friends had died in the previous 3 years, we didn't want a big celebration.

We compromised .......... daughter and grandson came over here (high price air ticket), and we had dinner at a nice steak house on the day. Then the 2 of us went to QC at the end of October, had 6 days in the top hotel there at a much lower price than in August (no-one believes the deal we got!!), and had a great time. We went there and back on the train as usual, so we were away for about 3 weeks in total, celebrating our 50th together.

I had my big birthday on the 7th, but the restaurant I love to go closes for the first2 or 3 weeks in January.

I managed to persuade OH that I was very willing to wait until they re-opened .... so my birthday celebration will be 3 weeks late.

Allan Report 16 Jan 2020 20:49

Sylvia, I've not checked prices for the following week as that is the Lodge Installation date, also my son's shift roster would not allow him to join us.

We'll work something out :-D
