BBC - "Britons returning from northern Italy are being told to self-isolate in the UK if they show coronavirus symptoms."

Shutting the stable door...…?

In 1832, cholera was officially recorded in east London & led to about 800 deaths.

'Cholera morbus' had first been identified in India in 1817.

(A cheerful uplifting excerpt from yesterday's Times newspaper.)

Seems a tourist from the Lombardy region has taken the virus into Sicily.

People due to go to Northern Italy on holiday are complaining that they haven't been given any advice.

So here is mine: stay at home and lose some money
Or go and chance either getting the virus - or more likely not being able to leave AND having to go into quarantine when you get home.

If you do choose to go don't expect a repatriation flight for free.

The choice is yours!

Tourist in a hotel in Tenerife also confirmed with the virus, hotel in lock down. sadly they didn't catch it in time in Italy and they will have travelled all over.

SylviaInCanada Report 26 Feb 2020 03:35

we now have 2 cases in BC connected to Iran ................. woman in her 30s flew from Iran to Toronto to BC, came down with symptoms a couple of days later, confirmed.

2 or 3 days later a man in his 40s connected with her also confirmed, but he started with symptoms before she was confirmed.

Both mild and in home isolation, contacts being notified, s well as the crews on the planes and people who sat within (I think) 6 rows of her.

They're also working with Iran to work out her travels and contacts, and where she might have been infected, over there.

We now have the first case in Gloucestershire but they have not said exactly where. Although we do know at least two Gloucester schools have recently returned from Italy. We also have a very large Asian community in Gloucester.
Before we knew this we went in to town on the bus and had lunch in Wetherspoons. So..... fingers crossed.

SylviaInCanada Report 29 Feb 2020 21:11

We now have a third case in BC connected with the woman who travelled to and back from Iran.

Ann .... I don't think the presence or absence of an "Asian community" now makes any difference

Italy is the danger point for you at the moment, and probably also for the rest of the world.

The experts here are making a big point about NOT blaming any one nation or race.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 29 Feb 2020 21:43

It does a little when they say one of the latest three is just back from Asia.

Much more important for Johnson to declare that his sperm work, than to hold a cobra meeting about coronavirus - or to acknowledge the worst flooding in 30 years, for that matter!

Have to admit all the latest cases here are now from Iran.

The governments should stop flights from all over the World instead of bring the virus into the countries that have a low count of people with the Virus.

Caroline

Caroline Report 1 Mar 2020 11:46

I'm not sure that's possible in many ways Sue but at least there should be better screening and education. Most of the people over here seem to have gotten sick within a day or two of getting here, and covered their faces etc and seen a doctor. At least one person though has been wandering around for over a week before showing major symptoms.

Florence61 Report 1 Mar 2020 14:43

Just heard on the radio 2 more cases confirmed in uk. One I think in Derbyshire.
This week we had a cruise ship from Norway dock in the harbour and the passengers came onto the island for shopping and tours!!! Why on earth did our council allow them to stop here.
So far we have no cases of the virus but getting a cruise ship here is the last thing we need should have just sailed on by.

We get loads of cruise ships coming here during the year but for now I think the council should temp stop them until this virus has passed. Its the only sensible way to try and contain it.

As for people moaning about losing their money on their hols to Italy etc....please get a life.Stay at home and be safe for now. The money can be replaced but people dying from this virus cant!

Florence
Divorce already sorted out that why they could say they were engaged

Still say all travel should be stopped anywhere.

Only sensible thing to do.

Now two cases in Gloucestershire, one in Cotswold area, not sure where the other is and a school shut for deep clean in Buford Glos (Cotswolds). I actually wish they would immediately say the area that an infected patient comes from, that way others in the area would be extra vigilant.
